So it was moderately cold last night and the car needed a 5 min "thaw" with the engine running / heater on first thing.
With the front screen clear, I then went to wind down the windows and was quite surprised neither window would go down. Maybe I've been lucky but all previous cars seemed to have coped with this without issue.
Are the windoes motors a little underpowered on the C7?

Bit of luke warm water over the seals and glass won't put the motors under any unnecessary strain.

or use some silicon on the rubbers.

I run a credit card around the outside of the seal between the glass and the rubber seal. Luke warm water probably wouldn't cause an issue but the difference in temperature could cause the glass to crack. Unlikely but its possible - especially if your idea of luke warm is too warm!

I've had exactly the same problem with my one week old A6 which surprised me a bit to say the least.
A few minutes on the move, they were soon working.

Mine haven't stopped working but you can tell that the rubber seals are very tight. To the point that you can hear the motors increasingly struggling under load as the window closes (more glass touching the rubber obviously.) Possibly the price to pay for extra noise insulation from outside.

Exactly the same experience. Seems to happen nearly every time there is frost. And, as you say, it doesn't seem to happen with other cars.
Wonder why heated a windscreen isn't an option. Think it is with other VAG cars.

Always happens on my cars but as they say- its grim up north.
I thought the heated fron screen thing was Ford owned tech so only their products or those to which they supply have it. My XF Jag had one on it and it was great, must use a wack of juice though as it dimmed the headlights when you used it (that said they were probably using the alternator of a Mini Metro)

A colleague was talking about ordering a new Passat and mentioned heated windscreen as an option he was thinking about.
Had it on a Ford many years ago and must admit I've not seen it as an option any where else. It worked quite well although you could see the wires embedded in the windscreen if you looked closely and I think it could cause dazzle through light scattering. That was a long time ago and I'd hope the technology has moved on a bit.

My old C6 used to do this regularly (windows frozen shut) but I came to the conclusion that it was not just a matter of "how cold" but "how the cold arrived". If it is damp and dew heavy so that water runs down and into the seals and then it freezes then they get frozen shut, if it's a very dry frost it does not bother them.
On the ford heated front screen thing. I believe that technology patents have an 'expiration date' in terms of exclusivity - i think it may be 7 years. In other words after that time has passed you cannot refuse to license the technology to other companies for a reasonable royalty fee, prior to that point you have the opportunity to milk the market with an exclusive offering.

That explanation makes sense. Thanks.
