Newbie here ... Long term member over on BMW5 and looking to move over to the other side.....
So.. Can I order an A6 S-Line with SE suspension. I see an option to tick S-line so does that mean they coming std with the softer settings as std?
Love the look of the sport kit but post have a 535d M sport im looking for both my cake and the ability to eat it.
I would have asked my dealer but Glasgow Audi are horrific to deal with...

S-Line suspension is a no cost option but you have to have the Sports suspension which is 20mm lower than standard iirc. S-Line adds another 10mm drop.
Get one on loan for a couple of days (your local dealer should allow this if booked in advance) and get a feel of the car and make your mind up from there.
Welcome to VWAF.

Chris, cheers for the reply, i have test driven an s-line, granted a saloon and i want an avant but no chance of a demo. I asked and was put down.
So.. S-line has sports suspension, no way to option SE and if i furthed ticket S-line it gets a further drop?

Ah, Belfast allow for 1-5 day demos if you ask but they mustn't be all the same.
As standard, an S-Line has Sports Suspension which is a 20mm drop over the SE, you then have the option to lower another 10mm by ticking the S-Line suspension box.
I suppose it couldn't hurt if you asked Audi Glasgow but more than likely it would be a factory order and charge you accordingly. Thats if they even agree or say its possible.

I would expect you will find the standard S-Line spec (i.e. with Sport Suspension) much more bearable than your BMW if only because it does not have run-flat tyres and thus lacks the incredibly stiff tyre sidewalls that RF dictates. If you were (and it's a big IF) abel to get an S-Line with SE suspension I would anticipate that you would get seriously punished come trade in as sea;era do not like anything that is not "standard" with identifiable and approved options. That being said it would not harm to ask. My own experience however when I asked about an S-Line with the light colour headlining from the SE rather than Black they fit as standard to the S-Line (I think the all black interior in the S-Lines makes them seem very claustrophobic) was that it was not possible although there was no real explanation as to why not.

I came from an M Sport on 18" alloys with run flats to Black Edition on 20" wheels so was a little worried like you.
My concerns were unfounded.
It has standard sports suspension rather than the additional S Line, and it is much, much better than the Beemer. And I'm a big Beemer fan. Had them for 10 of last 13 years.
It's all subjective of course.

My previous car was an F11 535D SE on 18" wheels. I thought the ride was awful, probably due, in the main, to the run flat tyres.
I drove around in an A6 S line for a couple of weeks with 19” wheels and the ‘standard’, as opposed to lowered S line, suspension. I thought the ride was OK, certainly much better than my BMW which crashed from bump to pothole, and it cornered in a fairly flat and stable manner. I think I could have lived with it.
However, I bought an A6 Allroad which has air suspension as standard. This has three modes; comfort, automatic and dynamic. Comfort is quite soft, not overly ‘floaty’ and is good for low speed town and gently motorway cruising. Dynamic mode firms it up quite a lot, probably about the same as the S line I drove, and delivers flat and composed cornering. Automatic is, unsurprisingly, some where between the other two settings.
Air suspension is available as an option on all A6 models, although on a non Allroad the calibration of the settings might be a bit different.
What one man might consider a pleasingly firm ride might be completely unacceptable to someone else. Try to get test drive as many cars with different set ups as you can.

Gents, thanks for the posts. It a personal lease im doing. I get bored quickly with cars. So resale is a mute point but i agree with your sentiment.
In the E61 I ended up removing the RFTs and installing Ride on tyre sealant instead
2nd question if i may... Leather seats, do i go for the std leather or the no cost option half and half leather / Alcantara. I find std leather warm and hope the other option may be cooler.? Am i wrong?

The Valcona leather is brilliant, best I've ever had in car. Don't think it'll make much difference in hot weather but it's a bit cold in cold weather, well, until the heated seats warm up. Heated seats are a must if you're sensitive to cold in the nether regions.
On the suspension, I wish I had gone for the s line suspension, I sometimes feel that the standard sports suspension is a tad soft, especially around roundabouts. Still it's not too bad.

Retired99s comments on the air suspension are spot on.. you get a ride that varies from S-line to SE and beyond although I can only comment from an allroad perspective also. Had a C6 A6 3.0 TDi quattro SE before, I avoided the s-line cos they were notoriously hard, and the allroad rides very much the same in 'auto' albeit a little higher - a stock A6 would be lower with air suspension (than the allroad).
There are 'undocumented' factory options... when we ordered my wifes A1 a couple of years back (actually a pre-order as they were not released in the UK) we shied away from the s-line 'cos it has very hard suspension and bigger wheels ( and I was pretty ****** 'cos the s-line was the only way you could get xenon headlights and LEDs) .. so we elected for a "sport" rather than an SE because of the toys that were included. The sport had harder suspension than the SE.. which we were not wild about. "No problem" my local audi dealer said, we can order a sport with SE suspension, it's an undocumented factory option.

I went alcantara for my c6 and now my c7, it's a personal thing but I find it so much more comfortable than leather in terms of hot/cold and also not "slippery" like leather. I also love the look especially the door cards that also come in alcantara. As I said though it is a personal taste thing!

I would suggest a conversation with a dealer first and get the order code for the undocumented option (if it exists). My experience of leasing companies has been that "if it is not in the brochure then it does not exist". If you can go to them with "I know it i not in the brochure but I want to order this option and here is the code" you will stand a much better chance. Leasing companies are also often scared by the unusual (my previous comments on resale values) so they may be reluctant. Good luck in your quest.

Yes, my thoughts were it would be a nice change and the slippery comment is also a goid point.. Still to see one in the flesh thought. Any pics would be good.

Yeah you definitely need to check with a dealer... A1 "sport" with SE suspension was a "Yes", S-line with SE or Sport suspension was a "No". I'd have gone for an s-line if I could to be able to have xenons / LEDs which were not an option for the Sport or SE (crazy I know).

Never had understood the problem with s line suspension, it's fine. Unless you want to pogo around like a bouncy castle I would stick with it.

Totally agree with whippy, c7 is a different world to predecessors and s line is no problem at all even with BE 20 inch wheels.

Well that the Audi ordered. Which raises yet another question. Apparently a new Ultra engine is coming. Anyone aware if that means my car will come with it?
Audi A6 Avant 2.0 TDI Ultra Black Edition announced with more power and better efficiency (http://www.worldcarfans.com/114013169555/audi-a6-avant-20-tdi-ultra-black-edition-announced-with)
More power and better MPG would be nice.

Well done! I think the Ultra is an extra Eengine option in the range so unless you have ordered an Ultra you will probably get the current engine. Drivethedeal list the Ultra Engine as a separate version with a different price to the current engine.

Yeah that was my thought but the lease company thinks it's a replacement and as mine looks like it will be a factory build it will be the new engine.. Here's hoping. Fingers and toes crossed.

Well all change, but no change. Audi cancelled the order of the original car, so I waited for the Ultra spec and ordered that instead. Ended up cheaper, so happy in the end.
So on to issue 2. I now inherit (potentially) her 118d M Sport 2010 5dr. And i want to keep costs down so short list is currently down to the following, thoughts please:
1. Bmw 120d M Sport X Drive (no gadgets)
2. Mercedes A200 AMG(stunning interior)
3. Golf Gtd (bit plain)
4. Seat Leon Fr 184 (not sure I like the interior quality)
5. Or Qashqai tekna 2014 (bursting with gadgets)
The last one may result in me being allowed to drive the A6 as my daily car!

Blimey, bit of a wide choice of cars there!
If you want the A6 as your car why not let her have what she wants?!!
I always fancied a Golf GTi or TT as a second car but my wife always wanted a Mini - she's on her third now. She rarely drives my cars. I do enjoy driving her Cooper S though!

What are her requirements? Make up mirror, somewhere to hang her handbag, etc. (Oops, hope the wife doesn't read this!)
But seriously: -
1. Bmw 120d M Sport X Drive (no gadgets) - Not pretty, cramped in the back, but quick and with X-drive to make it an "all year round" car.
2. Mercedes A200 AMG(stunning interior) - Expensive, quite good looking, nice interior.
3. Golf Gtd (bit plain) - Agreed that it's not quite as nice a place to be as one would expect and it get's quite pricey.
4. Seat Leon (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_nkw=seat+leon) Fr 184 (not sure I like the interior quality) - I like these and there are great deals on offer. LED lights nice and adjustable suspension is coming soon as an option. Also interior is much better than the Playmobil one fitted in the Mk2.
5. Or Qashqai tekna 2014 (bursting with gadgets) - Mmmmm, I can sort of see the attraction but would prefer a Yeti or Tiguan instead.
6. Audi A3 Sportback - great interior, good to drive, good at resale time, but pricey, particularly when browsing the options pages.
My choice would be A3 or Leon.

Leon FR, fantastic kit as standard and is basically a 8V A3/MK7 Golf underneath along with engine etc but at a helluva lot less £.

A3 saloon in white.
Chap round the corner has a new s-line one, very nice but I need something with a hatch for prams etc...
I'm leasing, cheapest way when we both change cars every 2 years or sooner... So as long as it's in budget games on.
Looks like the Qashqai is winning, going up to EK on Saturday to test drive and if she's happy with that, I'm going to be looking at a set of 20" for the A6..... RS6 or blades...
Love it when a plan comes together!:banana:

Well the wifes had the A6 for a month so far and loving it.... Stunning drive and quicker than I expected. The S tronic box is such a smooth shift.... And the suspension is superb. Compared directly to my E70 X5s suspension it's sublime...

Oh and on the 2nd car a Golf R is currently at the top of the list. Keeping the X5 until prices strengthen (hopefully) nearer Xmas.

Just to confirm in case its unclear...
The S Line models have S-Line suspension. This can be reduced to Sports Suspension at no cost. A6 S Line models cannot get 'Dynamic' Suspension. This is the highest riding setting of the 3.
The SE comes with 'Dynamic' Suspension and can be lowered with Sports Suspension or S Line Suspension
