Hello All. I am not new to the forum, I just lurk in the background.
My Mrs was involved in a non fault accident recently and unfortunately wrote off my beloved 02 A4 1.9tdi 130. It did it's job admirably despite the airbags not going off and the Mrs escaped with only whiplash despite ripping the front end off the Mercedes (who caused the accident) and splitting a telegraph pole in two!
Now I've replaced it with a 08 Passat B6 2.0tdi dpf cba with 90 odd thousand on the clock. So now I did a bit of research on them and it looks like nobody has a good word to say about them!!! Have I made a massive **** up in buying the Passat?
I chose the B6 platform as it was the same as the A4 I just lost, only updated with leather, cruise and 6spd gearbox (A4 was cloth, no cruise and 5pd) and I enjoyed the shove of the 140 motor in my bro in laws Touran.
Now I read about injector faults, EPB faults, DMF faults, rear pads that cannot be replaced without diagnostic equipment!
Has anyone got a good one?
I await opinions with baited breath...

I think you'll be ok with a 2008.
I've got a 2006 and everything that can go wrong has.
Hopefully it's all sorted now.
One of the experts will be along shortly and might confirm what I've said.

As Tom says, you should be fine with 08.
Do the exhaust tail pipes bend down or come straight out?

Thanks gents, I hope you're right.
A6_Chris: I can't remember off hand, I think they point straight out the back. I'll check when I get home. Does that signify a later model/version?

Also it has the RCD310 radio/cd player and I came across a bluetooth setting which I turned on and tried to pair with my phone. I scanned for any bluetooth devices with my phone and couldn't pick up anything related to the car. Is there something easy I can do to find out if the car even has bluetooth enabled? There is a phone button on the steering wheel. Even if there was some sort of compatibility issue between the car and my phone, I would have at least expected it to see another device.
Thanks for the responses.

Means you have the later common rail diesel so given that it's 08 and CR I wouldn't be worrying too much.
Are you searching with the ignition on?

Ok. Cool. I hope. Lol.
I have been searching with ignition on (possibly with the engine running whilst sat on the drive way if I recall correctly).

RCD310, even the latest DAB version, requires an external Bluetooth kit

@RichardSEL: Oh. So it has the bluetooth option on the display a
nd allows you to select the 'on' position even when you can't access it?
Oh well, no biggy. Thanks.

@A6_Chris: Yep 2 tailpipes sticking straight out the back.
So I used to have a 1.9pd 130, then the 2.0 140 came out (was this also a pd?) and now I have a 2.0 140 cr which stands for common rail as you informed me earlier. Just trying to grasp the chronology.
Is the cr engine better just because it is more reliable? Or are they drastically different?

The B6 2.0 came in both PD and CR flavours. The PD had pointy down pipes whereas the CR had straight sticky outy pipes.
Yes the CR is a more reliable engine than the 2.0 it replaced (although you can't ever beat a ye olde reliable 1.9 PD) and doesn't have any issues with oil pump balance shafts or injector problems so you're off to a good start.
It was a totally redesigned engine, more economical and reliable.

Ok. Good. Thanks for the info. Yes I must say my 1.9pd never gave any probs, only ever worried me when the alternator pulley started to lock up (nothing to do with the actual engine obviously, just ancillaries) and if it hadn't been for the accident I would never have got rid of it.
Well you have all collectively managed to calm my nerves on the topic. Thanks to everyone who posted.
