Hi everyone
This is a great forum and has a lot of useful information, so its great to be here, and i hope all you clever people can :1zhelp: me out :beerchug:

So what can i do with a flashing oil light on my audi 1.8t 1998, it only starts flashing below 70km's if i stay above that its fine, so i am finding this a bit strange.
I drove 750km's yesterday and try to stay above 70km all the time which was not possible :Blush2: and the light goes potty.

Any ideas of why this might happen only when i am going slow:confused:
Hence to say i got caught for speeding:mad:

I look forward to your help in this.
Stef

Could you let me know what model Audi this is and I'll move the question part of your post to the correct section.

Welcome aboard - I hope you'll find what you're looking for.

No worries at all.

We're here to help in any way we can.

Head over to the A4 B5 section and post the pertinent details in a new thread. You'll get more views and hopefully more replies in that section.

You must get an oil pressure test done as soon as possible, the 1.8T (especially early ones) are prone to oil pressure problems and the faster you go, the higher the revs are, which means the pressure is higher. The oil pressure warning system is probably telling the truth. I have seen so many of these engines fail due to this it is silly and a new engine from Audi is £2114 + fitting and you will probably kill the turbo as well. I have just bought an Octavia VRS with a failed engine as the customer could not afford to repair it. If the pressure is low, it may be due to a blocked oil pump pick up and that means removing the sump which entails lowering the subframe.

Follow Crashers advice and get it checked NOW:rant:

Hope it is something less sinister/expensive.

Thanks for the info, crasher and militar, thats great info, I will print of and take the description to my mechanic who keeps telling me its a dodgy light, but i am not so sure.

The car has started to sound like a diesel on startup for the first 5-10 seconds:1zhelp: me thinks is appropriate

I think you should not drive it anymore. That sounds like the cam chain tensioner inside the head breaking up. The bits fall into the sump and block the oil pickup.
