Listened to an A6 BE go past me today

Whilst out walking the dog. It was a saloon. Guess what? The tyres gave off a road noise that if heard in the cabin would sound exactly like a failing wheel bearing.
The car would have been doing between 30 & 40 mph.

Tyres under inflated perhaps? That would make them noisy...

Id say my BE Avant with 20s is very refined. 255 section tyres all around is going to give more noise than thinner smaller tyres.

I've read several complaining about a "Bearing failure type noise" on their A6's which dealers have been unable to find and it surprised me how noticeable it was as the car drove past. It was a 12 plate saloon.

I have that noise too. Complained when got the car but they said it was because of new tyres. Now tyres are almost to the legal limit and 17k miles later but now they say it's because the tyres are worn. Just can't win.
