Cheers Chris. Looks like basic service, oil change, filter etc.

Its not a dealer but an approved Audi/VW repair centre.

Seems about right if they're using genuine parts.

Audi charge £159 for oil and oil filter on 3+ year old cars up to 2.0. Did you check with Audi to see how much they would charge?

Bargain but yes, seems well priced for the age of the car.

Just make sure they're using genuine parts, are vat registered and give you a full invoice.

Can an indy organise to get the service added to Audi's computer? Long shot I know, but surely without that ability (over the phone to them of course, not having access to their system) then there's a bit of a service monopoly issue here surely, which I thought was being eradicated?

Ah yes, you all have an electronic service history now don't you no book in sight?

Something to consider OP.

This actually breaches European competition law, they'll be in trouble if they prevent the entry into the service history log, whether it be electronic, or not.

Sorry yes, that's what I was getting at. So does the Indy ring Audi and say, yep, all done, please add it to the record? I very much doubt it.

£250 is quite cheap, mine cost £300 and that was a discount price.

Ask the specialist what they do. They must get asked this question virtually every hour. My wife's Skoda is in for a 1st service on Friday (19,000 miles also) at the a Skoda franchised dealer and they've quoted £135 for oil and filter change (VW.507 oil so the good stuff). Might take the A6 there in a year or so's time :-))
If it's only an oil and filter change even Halfords couldn't mess that up could they???? Prob 99 squid while you wait.

Halfords mightn't use the correct spec oil or genuine oil filter.

Your Audi (maybe £25k+, £30k+?) deserves someone who knows the brand to work on it ie a VAG specialist or Audi themselves.

Personally I'd never, ever consider getting halfords to do an oil change and same for the tyre places. Personal choice at the end of the day.

A5 2.0 tdi today £135 using all genuine bits and quantum LL3 oil passing my discount on.The filters alone retail at £81 and oil about £35 for 5L,it all depends on labour rates really.

Couldn't agree with Chris more. If you buy cheap you definitely get your money's worth.

Technically yes but I know a couple guys who used to work for VW for a good few years and to be honest wouldn`t trust my car to them. How many dealer technicians can boast with the same knowledge as Crasher on here who is a good trusted indi?

Don't forget that a dealer will also do any software updates ( not just MMI ones) and other required non-service changes to the car, there is no guarantee that a specialist will be aware of these or be able to do them even if they are aware of them and Halfords won't have a clue. Also I wouldn't bother asking Audi for any financial help should something expensive fail after the warranty has ended if the car does not have a full dealer service history. It is also about building a relationship with the dealer. I have had all my Audis serviced by the same dealer for the past 15 years or so. I have an excellent relationship with the service department and they have always gone the extra mile when I have a question or needed something doing in a hurry. I am also not asked to accept an excess on a loan car she the car is being serviced.

As John has just said (and I admittedly forgot) goodwill outside of warranty is where you need to be with the dealer. I've been with Audi now 5 years and will continue to do so (I briefly thought about starting to use a specialist) for as long as I drive Audi's which will be from now on.

There's a feeling of blackmail to what both of you have stated there.

Receiving goodwill out of warranty and not being forced to take an excess on a courtesy vehicle because you spend money with them.

Sorry, I know that's not what you meant, but it smacks a bit of that.
