Audi a4 b8 1.8t 2008 160bhp general questions about the engine

hello, i'm about to by a AUDI A4 B8 1.8T 2008 160BHP and i was just wondering if there are any common faults with these models, I previously had a a6 2006 2.0tdi and that was a dissaster the turbo went then the oil pump and then the crankshaft so i just wanted to know if there is something thats gonna make me stop buying that car thanks

Hi Dawid, Ive got a A4 1.8t 120bhp which is the same engine just de tuned. Mines had a remap to 200BHP. Mines now got 100k on the clock and it runs perfect :-) Bought mine at 65k, I've had a oil change every 10k which I think is important. Ive only ever had to change a leaky water pump. Planning to keep it for at least another 20k :-)

Hi Dawid, Ive got a 58 plate 1.8T (160) S Line, really enjoy driving it. Done a good bit of research into the engines when buying mine and i couldnt see that many faults occur with the 1.8T. If serviced when needed and the oil is kept in check as SattyA4 has said you should be fine.
Then again - mines is going in for its major service next week .. touch wood.

Satty, how do you find the remap? Im looking into one as my mates 2.0T A5 has a bluefin superchip map and he's getting 45 odd mpg and an extra 50bhp! I do city driving mostly and get around 28-30.

Wow! 45mpg? Thats amazing! Mines getting around 28 - 32 mostly city driving too. The remap was well worth it when I bought my A4 I was 19 so the 120bhp was all I could really get insured on, think it was around £1800 Fully Comp, but as soon as my insurance dropped I remaped it to 200bhp :) Ive now give my A4 1.8t to my dad and I've bought a 2010 A4 Tdi due to the miles I now do. Still love jumping into my old A4 cause you just cant beat 200bhp and a manual gearbox! Makes my 2010 A4 (143) Multi seem so slow! Haha.

How many miles do you have on your A4? The most I've seen is 149,000 on a 1.8t which still runs fine. Hope to keep the petrol A4 for a while yet :)

Mines is currently sitting at 38k, had a few little cosmentic annoyances, rattley door seals etc but nothing major, absolutely love it.
My last car was a diesel 5 series, but im always doing little short journeys to work etc so i save more with petrol. overall!
Insurance companies are ridiculous, i'm 24, and i was refused insurance on an 06 Golf GTI, but could insure a fully spec'd 530i m sport.

The 1.8T is the first time ive ever had my insurance under 1k so going in the right direction :D

Ive added a full custom quad exhaust, upgraded to OEM 19s and just added an RS4 style grill, planning to keep it untill itll run no more... (Wishful thinking)

Love my A4, that why I had to buy another. After looking at Bmws and Mercedes, I just thought why not just get another A4! Any pictures of yours? The only thing I've ever done is a black grill and the remap. My 2010 A4 has the 19" S line wheels which look amazing :-)
