Hi again all,

Quick question...

I pick up my Black Edition next week and I'm wondering if I could/should swap the brand new 20" alloys with the 19" version that Audi provide on the A4 or A5. Has anyone else wondered about doing this? Would a dealer be happy to consider this bearing in mind the 20s are probably worth more, or do I need to find someone with 19s who feels they aren't quite big enough :-)

Why?

Sorry Chris, had a brain fade with trying to spell rotor. The forum won't let me delete the duplicates. Would you mind doing the honours?

Already done but my 'why' was aimed at why change them?

Why?

Ride comfort. Noise. Maybe I need to live with them for a while first. Or bought an SE :-)

19's will be no different.

You bought the wrong car for road noise and ride comfort due to the S-Line suspension and low profile tyres.

I don't entirely agree with Chris. Sure deleting the sline suspension would bring a better ride comfort, assuming you're driving on straight roads and drive like an angel. Where I live with mostly B roads, soft suspension of the SE is wallowy (especially with the poke of the biTdi) and where comfort includes less car roll the sline suspension delivers. That said I am using in combination with 18", I opted for the sline not black edition. It took a lot of deliberation including loss of the 20" rotors to choose the sline, but one I don't regret. Factors concerning the 20" for me included; c£130 more than 18" per tyre; comfort; kerb damage; repair of the black rotors costs more than regular alloy, and discretion. The flip side to the latter point, 20" look fantastic but that's not the primary reason I purchased the A6.

Where I would agree with Chris, is the marginal difference between 19" and 20", so if you're going to go to the effort to switch out consider 18".

A swap for your A1s 18" wheels it is then :-)

I have some immaculate 2012 s4 18" alloys assuming they are the same fitment?

I'm driving the BE on 20's and think that the ride comfort and road noise are excellent (I'm comparing it to my previous A5 s-line with 18's). I would live with them a while first. They also look phenomenal in my opinion. Have fun.

I would have to cut our the arches! The A1 is great fun with those wheels, the ride is hard and firm and the steering feedback is brilliant, in some ways reminiscent of our past 350SLK. Off topic... The A1 was purchased with the best intent for my wife to use as a run around with the children, and every time she chooses the A6 instead. Need to change the A1 for something more family orientated, thinking Q3/Q5 or Tiguan :-(.

I also have the BE with 20" rotors and have to agree that the ride quality/ tyre noise is fine. I came from a VW Tiguan with 18" optional alloys and the ride quality of the A6 is much better than that was!!

Well I got my car last week and my fears were unfounded - the ride is fine for me. Phew. I'd previously owned a BM M-sport on 18" wheels and this is much smoother.

There's an occasional clunk from the rear near side suspension but I'll see how it goes before having the dealer look at it. I think I read on a post somewhere that someone had a noise at the back that turned out to be something that wasn't removed at pdi so I'm hoping it isn't that.

I'll start another thread with some thoughts I have on the car so far, after a couple of weeks commuting in it.

Hi SGH

By chance, what tyres you running on your 20's - my Yokahamas are dead noisy - you say your wheels are quiet ???

Danny

Be grateful if you could tell me what tyres you have fitted - Cheers.

I doubt you'll find anyone who will take a bet on that fella.
