Does anyone know how to reset the brake disc warning light on an 02 reg Passat. I have had all the discs changed but the warning light will not go out.
Everytime I start the engine it beeps at me and is becoming very annoying.
Cheers, Kris. :(

Discs or pads?

If you've replaced the pads with new pads then chances are the new ones didn't have wear sensors on them.

Bodge job is to snip the end off the connector (car side) and twist the two wires together.

Proper job is to use pads with wear sensors. It's too late for that though.

Thanks for the response, I meant pads not discs, sorry should have said, all the pads were fitted with sensors.

Hmm, what does the warning light look like?

Are you getting any warning messages on the display?

If the dash light looks like "(O)" then there is no sensor connected or its not connected properly.

If it is a faulty connector, you can disable the dash light with a VAG COM, but you will have to keep an eye on your pads yourself. Cant see a problem with that as you have to with your rears anyways.

The warning light is the usual disc with the pads either side which is constantly on. When i turn the ignition on, the warning comes up "CHECK BRAKE PADS", even though all the pads are sound.

Does your ABS work as it should?

It sounds as though there's a fault in one of the sensors.

Who changed the pads? If you did the work yourself you know it's done properly but if you took it to someone, you may want to slide under the car and just check yourself that the sensors are connected.

Hi there, I am no expert but have changed enough pads to know that you can get faulty ones. It may be that your new set are faulty electrically. If you cut the connectors off the old pads at the pad end you can simulate the switch process of the wear indicator by joining the two wires. This will tell you if the rest of the system is ok. You will need to do both sides though. I would also use some electrical cleaner on the plugs just in case dirt is the source of the problem. Sorry but I cant remember whether the light comes on for an open circuit or a "short" condition.

Good luck

I believe the light comes on when the circuit is open. The wires go into the pad and the circuit is completed by the pad surface.

When the pads wear down, the wires are exposed and the light goes on.

Looping a bit of cable solves the problem, but you have to remember to visually check the pads from that point onwards.
