Hi guys,

Im thinking of trading in my 2008 A6 Avant for a 2009 A4 (want tge cheaper tax here in ireland and the girlfriend aint keen on driving the Avant). Anyway I just wanted to know if there is anything I should look out for?

Also how can I check if its a 120 or a 143? Dealer said 143 but the advert for the car on their website says 120. Its a main dealer to.

Thanks for any advice/comments

Easy way to check is the data sticker in the spare wheel well as this will give you the engine code and power output in KW.

No idea on B8 specific faults but obviously make sure its service history is up to data and the NCT is new-ish.

They're lovely cars, you'll enjoy it!

Thanks Chris,

Ill have a look the next time im passing the dealers. Service history is all with this dealer, one owner from new and 68,000 miles on it. It meteor grey (think thats the name). Its not an sline but its well spec'd. Drives pretty much like my A6 so well happy with it. Just need to make up my mind now :-)

If the car you are considering is not an S line, I assume that it has bog standard headlights. I would wait for one which has Xenons.

Republic of Ireland isn't specced the same as UK cars. Xenons were and still are optional on all models iirc.

Not sure if it has xenons but its not bog standard. Can I post a link to it or is that against forum rules?

Audi Approved :plus (http://audi-ballina.used.audi.ie/vehicle/1640739)

Thanks guys. Now the sales man did say 143 bhp (I remember him saying it would be similar to my 140 bhp A6). But the advert says 120. Anyway have a look at the spec and see what ye think

Going by the NCT expiry date, it seems to have been sitting a while so that's good as it allows more to bargain.

No idea on spec as you didn't say what you want and again price €/£ is hard to judge.

But looks like a good car, has Bluetooth and auto lights and wipers which is a good thing.

Have you looked at cars in the North as that price seems very high!

€18k is roughly £15k so this would be a better buy, 2009 v 2012 and far less miles http://www.usedcarsni.com/2012-Audi-A4-2-0-TDI-SE-143-AUTO-SAT-NAV-120796686

Might be a couple hours drive but you're gonna get a far better car imo.

Thanks for the info chris. What ur forgetting there is the vrt in the south. If I pay £15k then thats €18k here. I then would have to pay about another 5k to 6k here to register the car!! (Depending on alot of factors but thats a rough guess as a 2009 uk car is about 4k to register.

As for spec I just wanted to know if this is a good spec or bog standard?

As always I plan to do a few mods :-)

Ah yes totally forgot about that sorry! I'll see what £10k can get you up here just for curiosity's sake tomorrow sometime.

Spec looks standard, I'd say that car is a UK car, could be wrong but I know ROI you have to spec everything and very little comes standard. Speedo seems to be in mph too.

Yes mate it was a uk car. That audi dealer brought it in in 2010 and one owner since. All history with this dealer aswell.

Dont go out of your way looking for others as im probably going to go for it. Want to sorted for xmas as ive no tax, insurance is due first week of jan and nct is up in march.

Just out of interest what is my avant worth? 2008 140hp, leather, sat nav, no bluetooth, 68,000 miles

Uk dealers were offering a no cost optional package in early 2009 known as 'Executive', comprising Bluetooth, unique alloys, cruise control and the symphony multi-changer, so this could be a 2009 SE Executive. I just missed out on this nice option on my previous avant in late 2008.

You'll need to examine the car sticker in the boot for the kW output and convert it to PS.

I don't think that stop/start was available back then, so the ad really does seem suspect.

Thanks mark, that sounds like it could be an executive alright. Yes I noticed that on the test drive, it definitely didnt stop the engine and start again. At least I can use this as a bargaining tool to get a better price.

Thanks for all your help in making my mind up. I picked the car up on friday and when I get a chance to detail it ill put up a new thread. Turns out it is a 143hp so thats good, such a nice car to drive, if I was pushed to pick I would have it over the A6.

A good choice, I would love to downsize to a B8 but the hard thing is selling the A6 :(
