View Full Version : HDD Sat Nav constantly losing "Home" favourite

As subject. Ours frequently loses the user defined "home" location (bookmark) from the favourites option. Only got told about this today when I tried to use it, Wife says no, doesn't work.
It's been set about 5 times and now she's given up. There was a period of time (prior to the latest software) when the sat nav needed to boot a little more before recognising the bookmark, after about 15 seconds from being able to use the thing - trying to go into "home" bookmark before that time would give the error that a home location had not been defined, now apparently it does it all the time. Admittedly it's not been programmed a 6th time, but it sounds like it'll just lose it again.
Oh, and whilst I'm at it, got a photo of the screen getting stuck on boot up now, is this a known issue? Needs the button pressed again to make it go back in and then out again. Sticks about 5mm out of its housing.

When you have set the destination is there a mobile phone connected via bluetooth?

Probably. No idea. But yes, probably.

Connect your phone, set the home position, turn off bluetooth on the phone and see if it stays, if not, reconnect phone and it should appear again.
I think it was Mark who said things like that mate with the phone which is connected at the time.

I'll get her to give it a go. But it's a car thing, the favourites I mean, not a connected phone thing as far as I can see.

Yeah but they're odd like that. My C6 does it depending on which phone is connected ie saved destinations and whatnot.

Wife's A5 does it too.

What if we don't have a phone connected when we set it up?
To be honest, I we don't really care, the house has been selected so many times it's always in the recent destinations anyway, but it's the "vagueries" of the system.
Any idea on the screen?

I know the A8s have/has an issue with the screen sticking, get it back into Audi and let them fix!

Storing up a list of items. Need them to re-affix the rear bumper too, keeps coming away from the body. Fourth time's a charm, right?

It's from when they replaced the bumper. Could be worse, we could be Tadziak.

I have had this periodically but it seems to have been OK for the past few months. I think the Home destination is phone dependent as it relies on the phone contact list to assign the address and I have put the loss of the location down to the phone (iPhone) and the car have an argument and not talking to each other properly. Just thinking about it mine has been better since I assigned the Home location based on a physical GPS location rather than the address (use somewhere a short way away so as not give too many clues to where I live should someone relief me of the car without my permission!). Perhaps that is the solution

Well, it was input through the nav system based on a post code (were quite rural too, so it's all a bit vague anyway), and before the update it was a case of waiting a bit for the car to catch up so to speak before it would allow you to select it (which kind of makes sense if it is phoney), but nowadays each time it's been input, it's just forgotten it completely.
I'll try it without a phone connected tomorrow and see what gives.

Mine's done this once since getting it. I just put it down to one of those things that happens sometimes.

Started happening more and more now, just hadn't had a photo before. My dealership tend to want to see it happen on a photo or a video before taking a proper look.

My A6 developed this exact problem before I drove it off the forecourt. Audi changed the entire screen unit under warranty and - touch wood - had no problem since.

By chance I jsut drove my car without the phone being in the car and noticed that Navigation Favourites was not available. Supports my theory that the favourites are phone dependent regardless of how they are entered and if the phone and car fail to communicate properly then you lose Favourites.

I've just set the address without a phone being connected, all fine. Reboot the car after a trip to the park and still there. Reboot again and it's there up until the phone connects via bluetooth and it goes.
I didn't ever have a "home" address in my phone, and certainly didn't sync this non-existant address across to the car, so I'm flumoxed how this ever worked if that's the case.

KJsyt driven my car this time I remembered my phone and my Home Favourite reappeared. T think when you connect the phone it is overwriting the contacts (and favourites) with those from your phone, hence no Home on the phone (there's an ET gag there somewhere!!) hop Home Favourite. I presume if you try again without the phone connected that Home will reappear. Does Mrs W have a Home contact on her phone?

Just checked, and yes she does - so that's that.
[dramatic pause]
Unfortunately, there's no address in that contact, so that's not that.
Is yours fairly up to date software wise? This definitely wasn't a problem this extreme before the latest update in June of this year.

My car has not been to the dealer since I bought it in June 2012 so it does not have any software update (currently running P11474 and BT 3.22.6) I am thinking it may be that the lack of an address in Home on the phone is confusing it as it thinks I cannot have a Nav favourite if there is no address. My Home entry n my phone does have an address

Red herring then, the software update I mean.
I've never had a "home" in my phone though, and this wasn't a problem before. I'll try adding one in now (with an address) and see what happens. BBIAB.

Right. Not that this is definitive at all of course. But this is what happened - Chris will be pleased he was right at the start.
Added a Home to the phone's contacts, with address, made no odds. Still deleted the Home favourite in the car immediately upon BT transfer.
Then aded the Home favourite to the car again after the BT handshake and it's remained after a couple of car reboots. Also, deleting the Home contact on the phone has not affected the car either. So it's not a requirement to have that? I don't know. Vague.
No idea at all what will happen later once the Wife's been near it again and more importantly another iPhone has synced and left it's BT mess all over the place. I suspect the Home favourite will be no more.
I'll get her to add it again herself later on and see if it survives a couple of syncs from both phones.
Also, this would fit in with what I was saying about it not being as much of an issue before the software update. You can catch the Nav in a good mood if it's before the phone's started syncing but after the boot process of the Nav system. In that there is a window of opportunity to start a navigation to your Home favourite - think the boot must be slower since the updates and therefore the window is smaller.
Science.

I have the same problem. It's definitely dependant on whether you have your phone connected via Bluetooth. Once connected it comes up after about 30 secs.
Doesn't do this on my wife's Q7...but is 12 months older & different software.
Also, only last week, I took the car in complaining the screen had twice not come out from the dashboard on start up. They oiled the runners. It has not happened since, but was it a coincidence that the two times it happened were the coldest days this year since getting the car.
purchased in Sept....A6 C7 S-Line Black Edition...don't know there is a common fault here.
