My neighbours 2008 cabriolet with the 2.0 diesel engine has water in the drivers footwell. Well that was last week. This week it seems to have shifted to floor behind the drivers seat. We have checked the scuttle area and water runs out freely, and we have also checked the drain holes where the canvas roof meets the top of the windscreen and water drains out freely. So we are a bit sruck. Any ideas?

I've never had the problem but I think I've seen posts detailing an issue in the battery area.
I think the drainage below the battery becomes clogged with leaves and debris which causes the problem.

Might be worth whipping out the battery and checking the drainage channels to make sure they're clear.

Good luck

The seal under the ECU box can fail. This is on the drivers side under the bonnet.

Thanks Kite. I think this may be the cause. I tought maybe te aircon condensate drain may be blocked but after finding out that the aircon condensate drain is on the passenger side, I doubt it. Do you have any idea if the ECU is a difficult job. i.e. how do you get access to underneath the ECU box. Does it just lift out or are there wires that stop it being lifted.

I would confirm its leaking first.
Shine a torch up under the dash while someone pours water on the screen. It not an easy job to replace. On a saloon its wipers off, wiper motor and mech out then you can remove the lid of the box, relays out then the bottom of the box can be removed.

Well my neighbour gave up and took it to Audi. 3 weeks later and £2000, they replaced the rear drain tubes, which i did not know it had. Anyway given the age of the car, he traded it in for a brand new A5. He is happy although the wife had some serious questions for him.
