Hi All,

As many have said , I used a lot of the really useful info on here to take the leap and buy a 1yr old A6 2.0 S-line Avant.

Coming from an Octavia, the step up is significant to say the least.
Hopefully I can help dampen some of the "new buyer" concerns and add to other conversations;

1. SE or S-Line suspension. Test drove both cars back-to back and am 100% certain S-line was the way to go. It is not at all harsh, I would say sure-footed on standard wheels and tyres. To me the difference is that you are actually driving the s-line as opposed to being wafted along by the SE.

2. Options. The only option fitted to my car is the heated seats. Once I get the SD card sorted out and playlists added, I will be happy to say that's all I need.

3. VCDS - This really is a new world to me. I read one post saying it's now as essential as a socket set. I'm tempted to get someone out to make small changes but am still struggling to justify the full cost for somthing that will only be used once. Do I still not get it?

4. The buttons. Am really going to have to shut myself inside for a good hour to explore all the buttons. Seems there are several ways of doing the same thing via DIS / MMI. Is there a good tutorial for the standard spec car - user manual covers all options, would love to see something specific to the standard spec.

5. Leather - Anyone know any good products to care for it?

6. Interior LED lights. Would dearly love to do this modification, how simple is it to get in to swap out the bulbs?

And finally...

7. Audi 7 day insurance. Cheers for that, much cheaper excess for the windscreen replacement required after picking up a stone on the way home from the dealership.....

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Forkit

welcome and congratulations,

1 s-line is the way to go on suspension unless you enjoy driving a bouncy castle

2 heated seats are essential, everything else is optional.

3 VCDS, can see the benefits particularly for older cars, a good compromise is to look on Chris's map and find someone in your locale for a one off.

4 Ah yes, the buttons, terrifying at first site. Intuitive after an hour or so and will wonder why other manufactures don't all do it this way!

5 Leather, try the Gliptone (liquid leather) in my view the best there is.

6 Led lights, there is a thread somewhere about this. Annoyed that after paying for the lighting pack I still had festoons in the interior lights. Crazy!

Whippy, cheers for the info (and confirmation)

3. There's a map?! Let the hunt begin.

5. Ta very much

6. The only light I noticed from the lighting pack was the exterior door handle one, lovely touch. Keen to go LED

7. I think I'm over it......

On another point, I also went for the GAP Insurance but not from the Dealer - £117 for 3 years from Chris Knott

Don't feel like I missed out by skipping the McClaren Ceramic coating. Does anyone advocate that?

You will get your head round the buttons and once you do no Audi will be a mystery ever again.

For the leather Gliptone is great stuff but it does have a strong leather fragrance that is more MKII Jag than A6 Audi so you might want to think about Autoglym leather care cleaner and then conditioner which has less of a strong leather smell. My opinion of course !

Gliptone all the way, absorbs nicely into the leather, if you don't like the smell it goes quickly enough

Thanks - Gliptone it is then.

Will begin pestering VCDS contacts soon. Quite a few in and around Sutton, hopefully I can get these hidden features unlocked.

I think the first pimping will be the interior LED's - follwoing that thread with interest.

Just replaced the interior lights with LED's yesterday. Very easy. Cost approx £12 off EBay, but this included sufficient bulbs to do my wife's Q7 as well.
As a pointer, when lifting the plastic covers off, do it from the narrow end.. Ie the switch end.
2x 37mm festoons & 4x T24s.
however just noticed the two under the doors that light up when door opened. Missed them !

Birgy, what's the easiest one to start with? I'm incredibly nervous of snapping a tiny bit of plastic that means it won't go back together....
