View Full Version : are these bosch plugs interchangeable?
the car is an early 2002 petrol vw golf 1.6 16v with the AZD engine code.
the original vw spark plugs which are fitted to the car are double platinums and made for vw by bosch -the bosch part number is F7 HPP 222 U.
would it be ok to fit the following bosch plug which according to the bosch website should fit my car -bosch spark plug-FR 7 HPP 33+.which is a double platinum as well.?
the differences are the later plug(FR 7 HPP 33+.) has a fatter central electrode-0.7mm than the former one 0.6mm.(F 7 HPP 222 U)
also the later has a 6 ohm interference suppressor/burn off resistor whereas the former one has 1 ohm interference suppressor/burn off resistor.

The workshop system lists it as a Bosch F7 HPP 222U and the VW part number is 101 905 601 which is now a Bosch FR 7 HPP 33+.
thanks for your helpful reply,so looks like the bosch fr7 hpp 33+ ones should be ok to fit? as i can get some from eurocarparts.
finally, are the bosch ignition pencil coils which are bosch part number 0 986 221 023 compatible with the original vw ones which on my car are vw part number 036905715E?

I tend to use only genuine VW supplied plugs or sometimes we source them direct from NGK or Beru, I am not a great fan of Bosch plugs but in this case the only VW listing is the Bosch FR (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_nkw=bosch+fr) 7 HPP 33+ and so I would fit VW 101 905 601.
036 905 715 E changed to 036 905 715 F and the current number is 036 905 715 G but before that there was 036 905 715, then 036 905 715 A then 036 905 715 C….I only ever fit genuine VAG coil packs, the latest version is the G

so fr7hpp 33+ have superceded the Bosch F7 HPP 222U and should be ok to use?

Yes, Bosch FR 7 HPP 33+
Yes, Bosch FR 7 HPP 33+-ok thats good then.
when i entered vw part number 036905715E on the bosch website to cross reference a bosch equivalent coil pack for my car,it comes up with 0986221023.Follow this link www.bosch-automotive-catalog.com/public/catalog/products?p_p_id=BoschWSRP&p_p_lifecycle=1&p_p_state=normal&p_p_mode=view&p_p_col_id=column-1&p_p_col_count=1&_BoschWSRP_wsrp-urlType=blockingAction&_BoschWSRP_wsrp-navigationalState=%2FWFS%2FAAGLOBAL-AA-Catalog-Site%2Fen_GB%2F-%2FEUR%2FViewSearchProduct-ByExternalNumber%3Bpgid%3DD41D8CD98F00B204E9800998 ECF8T_11YcQy%3Bsid%3D5ZU8oRxpics53076X2uwWxPiLqtfY TzGJnI%3D&_BoschWSRP_proxyportlet-remoteInvocation=true (http://www.bosch-automotive-catalog.com/public/catalog/products?p_p_id=BoschWSRP&p_p_lifecycle=1&p_p_state=normal&p_p_mode=view&p_p_col_id=column-1&p_p_col_count=1&_BoschWSRP_wsrp-urlType=blockingAction&_BoschWSRP_wsrp-navigationalState=%2FWFS%2FAAGLOBAL-AA-Catalog-Site%2Fen_GB%2F-%2FEUR%2FViewSearchProduct-ByExternalNumber%3Bpgid%3DD41D8CD98F00B204E9800998 ECF8T_11YcQy%3Bsid%3D5ZU8oRxpics53076X2uwWxPiLqtfY TzGJnI%3D&_BoschWSRP_proxyportlet-remoteInvocation=true)
so should this be ok for my car or is the bosch website misleading?
Interestingly it comes up with the same part number(BOSCH 0986221023) for all vw coil packs equivalent to 036905715,036905715A,036905715C,036905715E,0369071 5F and 036905715G

The VW number 036 905 715 E changed in August 2008 to 036 905 715 F and in June 2012 it changed to 036 905 715 G which is the current number for a new genuine coil which is all I will use. The Bosch cross reference to the latest VW number is 0 986 221 023 but as I said, I will only use genuine.

when i last went to my local TPS store, the genuine coil pack i saw there was made in turkey and the bosch ones are also made in turkey- my guess is probably in the same factory, one with the bosch logo and the other with a vw logo.
