Well someone just swerved across the road at speed and ripped my wing mirror off. Didn't stop and drove off........Thanks.

So three questions:-

1. Any idea how much a new wing mirror is?
2. If i fit a second hand one will it need coding? (i have found one for £160)
3. Is it easy to fit?

There are some scratches down the door but hopefully these will polish out. I don't want to put this through insurance (it's a company car) as i will be leaving the company car scheme soon and may need a letter to prove the no claims etc.

Not a good night:(

Never good!

1 - no idea, depending on what options are fitted, ie folding or dimming both being expensive and add paint on top
2 - no.
3 - yes, just take the door card off (ill find a how-to and post it up), unbolt old mirror and new one on.

remember the glass from a lhd car (just incase you're looking) will be different.

did you get their reg? another reason to get a dash cam! Blackvue 'Dash Cam' installed in A6! (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?150613-Blackvue-Dash-Cam-installed-in-A6!&highlight=blackvue)

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate incident. Make sure that you report it for the following reason:
A similar incident happened to my next door neighbour who went after them in his car. He found them at the police station reporting it, stating that they were the victims.

Thank for the help guys, I might go with the second hand one at £160, sure it will be much more from Audi. The mirrors are standard ones so don't fold. The electronis are already reporting a missing side indicator bulb. The mirror looks like something from Terminator 3!! Not easy to drive without that mirror, didn't realise I used it so much (offside mirror)

Not sure the camera would have helped at all. It was pitch black dark down a narrow country lane.

Chris - if you can find that fitting guide that would be great thanks.

The camera I have works surprisingly well in the dark .. I'll send you the link tomorrow morning at some stage, on my iPad at the mo.

Just been to Audi - £570 to supply, fit and spray the new mirror. Alternatively i can get a second hand unit for £150 but will need to fit it and spray it myself....... what to do???

not a lot left of the mirror.....

Same happened to me, there is a post on here somewhere.

Dealer quoted me £570. Bought one off eBay for £170. Sprayed it with some paint from Halfords in the back garden.

In my case (and yours may be the same) the casing had gone, the LED was broken, the glass was gone, but everything else was ok. In which case fitting the bits back together is not too bad as you can reuse everything that is still attached to the car.

I would recommend buying a complete unit and having a go, if you can't do it a friendly mechanic could help you out and you would still be quids in.
