Hi all

My Mum's car has been experiencing difficult starting. It's worse cold, but does it sometimes when warm. Cranks fine, but won't catch. It's been off the road for a couple of months and I can't get it to start for love or money. I've been searching forums and people often seem to point to the CTS- is that something that might be causing the problems on Mum's car? Car runs fine once started.

BTW, it's an A4 2.4 99 auto.

Really appreciate any help lads :D

aye, hook a computer up, check for codes and look in live data to see if its the cts, crank sensor, cam sensor. you can see whats working and whats not. either that or do some good old diagnsotics an see if you have fuel and sparks, or randomly throw money at it until you replace the right bit.

I have the same car and it had the same problem, a scan will not pick up a faulty cts, but i changed mine for a gsf part but that was **** and didnt work ethier. In the end i sourced one frpm a scrappy for £2 and i solved the issue straight away. But what i will say is my cts was a bitch when the weather was warmer and when engine was hot, if left overnight it would start 1st time.
Hope this helps.

a scan will show a faulty cts, if you know how to do it. it won't show a fault code but it will show as an incorrect temperature reading.

It's £41 from Audi. I ordered one up Friday. Going to try it when it comes in Tuesday. Will let you guys know how I get on.

It's not going to be worth me spending money trying loads of bits or paying a garage to sort it out, as we're selling the car. In that event, I'll just sell it as having a starting problem on ebay.

Hey lads, just wanted to let you know the CTS was the problem. Can't believe that's all it was. £41 and less than 10 minutes to fit. Thanks for all your advice, much appreciated :)
