View Full Version : Xenon Headlight Range Settings in VCDS for prefacelift?

Guys, I've had a fault on my car since purchased, namely that the motors that adjust my xenons do not work (they don't go up and down when main lights switched on). Not a real problem as their fixed point passes MOT fine.
I do know these are reliant on sensors towards the rear of the car, which seem to be OK and had initially thought that the motors for these had gone (or the fuse for these had blown)
However, after reading a thread from 2003 it seems it's possible to immobilise these motors through coding, which the previous owner may have done. So thought I'd ask if any C6 Xenon equipped owners with VCDS could share their coding with me for comparison?
A specific A6/C6 request so perhaps not suitable for posting in VCDS or 'anything with wheels' sections.
My scan returns this:

Did you look in the Adaption menu of the Xenon Range?
If you disable them you're just gonna get another error I assume.

Hi Mark.
I have the same headlights and wondered what yours are like for brightness also is it noticeable lift when driving?
I'm not that impressed with mine but no fault codes show up.

Over time Xenon bulbs degrade and lose brightness btw so this is probably what you're experiencing.

) Dave, typically I replace my xenon bulbs every 2yrs, have done a comparison test between ultra expensive (Xenarc) and cheapy £10 ones and really can't see a difference...however I do notice that brand new bulbs are brighter than 2yr old ones...so have to agree with Chris.
Now I know the car I can change both sides in under 20 mins :)

I also think my Xenons are rubbish, No improvement from bulb change
The seem to lack distance on high beam, & fore ground lighting on dip.
I noticed today there is a dark area close to the car; can't see it from the drivers seat, you have to get out.
Is this normal or are the bulbs in the wrong position?

Apologies for the delay...took pic at 6 but time with my kids took precedence.
2F you didn't mention what your perspective/measurements/distance was...have the pic but no reduction software on this pc to enable me to post it....it won't let me paste a pic of 2.5mb
Will try and post tomorrow if I can get onto t'other computer
However my light pattern doesn't look a lot like yours.

Pic from Mark
Furthest edge of garage 25 feet, to it's right is a fence that is 3 panels long (18.5 feet) so back fence roughly 43 feet away. Was using flash but you can clearly see the line of headlights at a height of about 24 inches.

Wow that's a lot different
I stood by the drivers front wheel, guess the dark area extends 3-4m from the car
I'm going to disassemble the lights tomorrow

By way of an update the 'Suspension Height Level Sensor' (which controls the xenon levelling) part no for my car is 4F0941285F
My car lights do nothing in the VCDS output test, suspect either the sensor or else the fuse....problem is despite numerous searches I can't find the location of the fuse(s)
Sensor £105 new from Audi or £40 off ebay.
Weirdly there's only one the front of the car (passenger wheel) and one on the rear.

Hi Mark.
Silly question.
Do your headlights "nod up and down" to set themselves when you switch on?

Mine never have but should, they never have since I bought it and VCDS gives me these faults:
2 Faults Found:
01539 - Headlights Not Adjusted
005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation - MIL ON

So don't know if it's a fuse (I don't know which one it is) or the height level sensors, or indeed the adjustment motors themselves.

Try to find the SC9 5 Amp in the left hand side fuse panel at the end of the dash.
It should be the brown fuse carrier in the middle you are looking for a beige fuse.

Hi Mark,
I have adaptive bi-xenon lights but just in case it's of use my coding is:

Subsystem 2 - Part No: 4F0 941 329 A

I notice you have faults logged, but also early up in the list it mentions no or incorrect coding.
Good luck,

Dan if it's the 9th fuse along on the passenger side there isn't one...might explain the problem!?
Here's pics of my fuse box and explanation sticker, so am going to try a 5amp fuse in there and see what happens!

Good luck,
Andy, maybe because no fuse
According to scan/adaptation 0000016 is for a Scirocco with dynamic chassis??
Here are my measures, so it would seem voltage is going to the sensors, but clearly if no fuse betwixt them and lights (if it works like that?) then that would explain things.
Am assuming that placing 5am fuses in all of the gaps will do no harm if the car has no such fitments?

The 5 amp fuse is the feed to the V49 leveling motor in the headlight.
If the fuse blows then the motor is most likely gone or the wiring is shorting.
If the fuse is ok but the motor does not work then look at the E102 Headlight range control regulator as this maybe faulty but if this was the case then both sides most likely would be not working.

There is no fuse if it's the 9th one on the middle holder, both sides don't work

No.2 fuse 9
Just to be 100% sure post the your engine/gearbox codes
And i take it that you have BiXenon's from above post?
if so the E102 post is not true.
