At just under 10k miles I started to experience a slight judder through the clutch when pulling away from stationary in first gear (manual transmission). It was most noticeable when it was damp and cold, but would disappear once the car was warm and I have driven a good few miles. On investigation my Audi dealer decided they would replace the clutch and flywheel as a good will gesture. This seemed to do the trick, until now. Another 10k to 12k miles on, and cold damp weather it is doing the same thing again. As clutches are non warranty items and it was replaced f.o.c last time I guess I am looking at £2k bill this time.

I have never had to have a clutch replaced on a car before and have held on to them for 3 to 5 years. I cannot believe it is my driving style causing the problem. There must be some misalignment mechanically to be causing this. Without finding the root cause the replacing the clutch again is more than likely to lead to the same outcome in another 10k miles.

Guess I could just live with it as it isn't a major issue yet, but who knows what the longer term consequences might be and face a big bill then. I am a perfectionist though and it does occupy my attention whenever I am driving the car now, taking away the enjoyment of an otherwise great car.

Mine judders occasionally too but i won't lose any sleep over it. I would just leave it for now.

If its less than 3 years old its under warranty, take it back..I would. My clutch was replaced and then flywheel and clutch. No argument with Audi they just did it.

I agree. It wouldn't be covered if due to fair wear and tear but clearly with yours this isn't the case and is due to some sort of defect, particularly as it has reoccurred.

Mine does it as well when pulling off the drive when it's cold. It disappears after a couple of hundred yards so I'm not overly concerned with it.

It would appear that I am not alone then, but that doesn't mean I am at all happy about it. Will consider my options and talk to my Audi Dealership and see what they think.

I'd be interested to hear what they say.

Mmmm, I wouldn't be happy with any clutch judder, temporary/cold related or not. We're talking about an expensive, prestige car here - my son's 10 year old Fiat Punto does it now and then but that can be lived with!

Modern cars are tested in extremes of cold and heat and sold in markets that have lower/higher temperatures than we experience so there is really no excuse.

My experience is that it is far more prevalent on damp mornings. How can that be? If it is a genuine clutch problem then surely it should happen all the time. Didn't experience it this morning despite it being cold and frosty. a6 manual l 2.0 tdt s-line 177 saloon, registered march 2012

Sorry to steal over from the C6 side, but my Sep 2009 Avant has clutch judder too when pulling away in 1st. Always when damp on first start up till the car is warmed up. Didn't notice it all when frosty but dry on Monday morning.

Kinda hoping it's how these big heavy cars are, and not an expensive replacement on it's way..............

I am not at all mechanically minded but could it be due to moister on some sort of sensor to do with the traction control and the judder is caused by the traction control cutting in, thinking the wheels are skidding when they aren't. Would this result in the judder sensation?

Yes - mine does this, again only after cold starts - but does seem to be getting progressively worse, but very slowly. Its one of those things I thought I would monitor and then report at the next service. By the look of it, its a common problem so I would fully expect this to be a warranty issue.
