I have a Golf mk6 with an RCD510. It was registered 09/12 but it seems that the hardware revision is KW02/2011 All unfortunately, so it is not the most up to date RCD510 (for those reading this for advice, in order to see all the version info, while the unit is on, hold down the Setup button for 5 seconds)

Anyway, firstly can anyone tell me if there is a newer firmware for my head unit?

Secondly, I have an 8GB Kingston SD card (i.e one that is listed as being very compatible in the owners manual). It's in FAT32 of course

I have about 8 albums on the card, some contain MP3's, some contain subfolders with MP3s.

But only some show up. The folder structure does not make a difference (i.e one album that is showing contains MP3s while another showing contains subfolders with MP3s).

I have recoded all the files from FLAC files, therefore they have all used the same Fraunhoffer encoding method: CBR 320 @ 44.1 khz.

The tags are in both v1 and v2.3 UTF-16, the tags do not contain any odd characters (but that would not be related i dont think, as the entire albums are showing or not showing, rather than individual files).

I have just tried reformatting the SD card without the Quick option, so that all sectors are formatted, but again that should not have any impact, as the RCD510 is read only, so the data it is reading is on correctly formatted sectors.

So thinking to myself now, it can only be something in the folders themselves.... Hmmmmmmm.....

Was a simple fix for the missing albums: Any folder that contained other files (hidden files such as album art and desktop.ini files) were not showing.

Deleted all the crap and i not have a huge library of music for the car!! Well impressed!

Still need to know if there is a newer firmware version though, and if so where i can get it......

Yes you can delete all album picture files as they aren't needed. On a flash drive you can use a Windows Media Player Play List but that makes no difference with or without. I download my firmware updates (http://www.my-gti.com/?s=firmware&submit.x=0&submit.y=0) and installed them if you search for the correct number.
