Hi Guy's I have a MY12 A4 Avant with normal headlights and with winter coming I was wondering whether I can put Halogens in without having to make any modifications, and how do I change them over is it easy? TIA

you already have halogens, all cars since the 80's have had halogens. i am sure you mean hids, or xenon discharge lamps.

So whats fitted atm? Xenons?

It seems I have halogens in all ready according to Zollaf , I just wanted brighter lights at night, whats the next ones up xenons ?

If the car is S-Line you already have Xenons, SE cars had halogens as standard but Xenons were ovbiously an option.
Upgrading to Xenons is an expensive move, headlamp washer retrofit, self levellers for the beam and the headlamps and bulbs, ballasts.
Stick some Osram nightbreaker plus or philips xtreme vision that way you'll be legal and have better vision.

Its an SE, I will put in new bulbs, Is it easy to replace them.

Should be easily done, I have no experience of replacing a headlight bulb in a B8 A4 so look at the back of the headlight and see how much room you have for your hands.

Its an SE, I will put in new bulbs, Is it easy to replace them.
It's in the manual, seems a bit daunting as you have to remove a couple of plastic covers at the front of the engine then remove the headlamp unit but in practice it's better than trying to do it in place.

Hi All
I have now recieved the bulbs Philips xtreme but someone at work says they only last a year to 18 months, Is that right ?

Depends how much you use them!
I'm replacing a set once every year in both cars due to driving them mainly at night/early morning.
