I've just finished fitting a new centre pipe (and a few other bits) to my 1.8 20v. As luck would have it, it turns out the new silencer has a blow from the "wrapped" seam that runs the length of the box. Not a major leak, but you can hear it and see the odd wisp of smoke from time to time if you get underneath with it idling. So it looks like it's going to be coming off again..:zx11: Not today though! Out of interest (and clutching at straws here..) is it ever the case that soot from the inside of the pipe can plug small leaks and it might resolve itself in a few days???

Cheers for the input, gents. Can't say I'm looking forward to scraping out the assembly paste ready to try my luck with another (similarly untested?) replacement on my next day off. I thought "Quality Assurance" - ISO9001 and all that, might have put paid to those kind of hassles! Or maybe I'm just gullible.. Anyway, if it does sort itself out I will appraise you of my findings....

Good lesson learned, don't buy exhausts made from old cartoon brand beer cans....

Unless you get to drink the contents first!
