Hi,

I am a new owner of a passat diesel 2007 estate.

Just want to know if it normal for the exhaust gas warning light to remain light once the key is in. All the other lights have disappeared expect this one and the battery light.

The light goes off once the engine is on.

Im guessing this is normal as the engine is not on and its not reading the correct temperature or gas readings.

I noticed it today as the car wouldnt start despite the key being pushed in and the coil light had gone out. We waited a bit and it started. Difficult to understand what needs to happen for it to start.

Any tips?

The engine light will stay ON when the igntion is ON and should extenguish when the car is started providing there are no engine faults. If it stays on then you need the car scanned for faults and investigated.

Is the DPF filter getting choked? Take in for a drive at 2000-2500 rpm in fourth gear for about 30 mins. If the light occasionally comes on it is regenerating but getting blocked. regeneration usually takes place without any lights showing.
