Why on earth do modern cars have this annoying feature? I am capable of checking the car isn't in gear without electronics controlling my every action.

During summer I can just about live with it but winter is a complete ball ache.

Have to jump fully into the car to start it then have to jump out to clear the ice off. Not easy with S-line seats and a large long body to contort in and out.

Any ideas if it is possible to switch it off?

Bring back a proper key :(

You might be able to do some adaptations with VCDS, a smart member will see your thread and post alternatively you could consider Morria Marina ownership, less electronics and all that :)

find clutch switch, probably on clutch pedal. now, i would say to solder the wires together but then the car may think you always have your foot on the clutch and refuse to move, so, extend wires and fit a remote switch which you then press as you tun the key. hey presto, one modern car feature overcome by the layman. just make sure the car is in neutral or it will all end in tears and having to explain why you bypassed a safety system, possible to a high court judge, depending on how much damage you cause.

There has to be some way, in Canada and USA they have remote starting in winter, unless maybe a little hydraulic foot comes down from under the dash first.....

ah but in america they only have autos, so it would be in park so therefore able to start. its only this side of the pond that we are deemed stupid enough to have to change gears for ourselves yet at the same time deemed clever enough to be able to change gears.

The switch is part of the clutch master cylinder there is no coding that springs to mind to deactivate it

I don't see the point of this 'feature' either. I'm guessing on manual cars you have to press the clutch whereas on Autos (like mine) you have to press the brake. It's like they want to make sure you are sat down before starting the car. You would think that is the default mindset and if not then there is a bloody good reason for it lol.

Surely it's possible to map it off? expensive I know
