Anyone changed the reading/overhead lights to LEDs? I have LED in the footwell, doors and door handles just would like to match it with the roof lights.

All the interior lights in mine are LEDs, however I have the optional lighting package.

I've just changed mine on Friday. I have the interior light package (not ambient) but the lights in the headliner, vanity mirrors, glove box, and boot are normal incandescent.

It's an easy job once you realise how to get the covers off, just be careful not to damage the trim, use a trim removal tool or similar, i used some little plastic tools i previously used for repairing an iphone.

Dome light = Festoon x 1
Vanity mirrors = Festoon x2
Reading Lights = T10 x 4
Glove Box = T10 x1
Boot = T10 x1

I used :
6 x 4+4 SMD 3528 T10
3 X 3 SMD 5050 39mm Festoon, these should really be 37mm But these worked ok and can be taken backwards if ever needed

Just remember that for the vanity mirror lights it's both the position of the shade and the slide cover that triggers the light :Blush2: It fooled me for a short time til i realised.

Do the lights still dim ? I was told that LED's are either on or off and wouldn't dim at all ? And do you need to do anything with VCDS ?

Thanks

Yeah they still dim and no you don't need VCDS, It's a straight swap.

Hi, Thanks for the info on your interior lighting , did you get an interior kit or buy them seperately ? I want to do the same for my interior, as I have some led's standard ...ie footwells but not under the doors, mirrors and main interior or boot.
Where is the best place to buy them ?

Kind regards

I bought them seperatelly, to be honest there were only 2 types needed. But i didn't need the under doors doing so don't know what type they are.

I bought from Hong Kong whilst on a business trip but it's fairly easy to order online and have them sent over, any you buy locally will have probably come from there anyhow.

Onionman, let us know how you get on - as more and more people say it's simple, I'm gaining confidence in trying it for myself!
Cheers,

Me too please Chris - had to get a mirror out to see if I had the puddle lights, they are there but can see LED's making a huge difference

I bought a kit for mine, it came with all the bulbs I needed to change every halogen bulb in the car.

Something like this is perfect...

Interior Light LED replacement kit for AUDI A6 C6 14 pcs COOL WHITE 6000K | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Interior-Light-LED-replacement-kit-for-AUDI-A6-C6-14-pcs-COOL-WHITE-6000K-/251370763241?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a86dd73e9)

Don't wish to poo-poo these for anyone who's bought those ebay ones but we have LED bulbs in the house with those yellow pads in them.
They are noticeably different (in a bad way) to the hugely expensive Phillips ones we shelled out on.
Hopefully they turn out as good as the photo's suggest

Those yellow pads are surface mount diodes (SMD) they only shine in one direction, hence the reason that some go all the way around. These are not normally that good for household lights unless for G10 downlights. The Philips LEDs use these but have a diffuser over them to distribute the light. In our cars the cover acts as a diffuser. They work ok.

Thanks for clearing that up A6iasn.
Phillips LED's are the ones I was on about, didn't think of the effect of the cover!
