Collected my 2010 q7 3.0 tdi s line today and not great day. Just come out of a nightmare with Mercedes after 2 years and decided on an Audi.

Picked my q7 this afternoon and noticed already a knocking noise. When accelerating from standstill then brake instantly, I noticed a knocking noise from underneath!

any ideas what this could be? As dreading if I have walked into another nightmare.

Any ideas and assistance will be much appreciated.

Take it straight back, you have at least 1 years warranty on the car.

Hi there
Just came out of a 2 year nightmare with Mercedes and decided to purchase a 2010 q7 3.0 tdi. Since the first day, been experiencing a knocking noise. Its been in twice already and still nothing. They have today advised that the knocking noise is fuel hitting around the tank. But this sound is way much more than that. I have presented the faults twice and today when visiting the dealer, they fuelled it up with diesel and said the noise stopped. Well not really, just quietened it down.
Please can someone assist and tell me that this is not normal right? I questioned if the 60k model in the window did the same thing and they could not answer! about to take out a 2012 model and they changed their mind and advised they will check with Audi Technical.
I present the fault from standstill, rev to 1500 rpm and let go, then clunk/knock. Then press brake and another slight clunk/knock
Your help and assistance will be much appreciated.
Or do I just give it back and walk away?
Regards

Sounds just like the fuel sloshing about indeed, both my cars do it and so do many others.

Does it do it with like less than 1/2 tank?

Hi there, I can hear the sloshing but from 3/4 full I get knocking. To be fair it did quiet down when filled back up but, when I first collected it, I put about 30 litres in and it was knocking. Then now at 3/4. I understand the sloshing around but the knocking? At first it feels like something from underneath moving. Like a stick caliper but they ruled that out. Loose pads, they ruled that out. I have a theory maybe they know what it is until the first 30 days pass so that they can claim on warranty? As there is some sort of grace period on approved used audi's?Just concerned if its a diff issue? Do these vehicle have a torque tube? I remember when my 911 (964 Carrera 4) range had common issues like that. This has ruined another weekend and really banging my head on the wall.Regards

You have a 30 day exchange/1000 miles whichever comes first to exchange the car from date of purchase.

Also from date of purchase you have 1 year Audi warranty.

Has it had its first MOT yet?

Yes back in July. It's also gone through a 145 point check.

Spent 3 hours today

Use your iPhone / similar to record the sound.

Why the heck are you taking the revs up to 1500 before letting go? You do know this is a 2ton + car don't you?.... You'll do yourself no favours trying to show off accelerating it (diffs, clutches, transmission boxes, engine / box mounts).

Try taking it to another dealer. Your warranty is good anywhere. Can you describe the knocking better? Does it happen when turning? Or is only when "launching" from a stand still? How many miles has the car done?

Maybe, Just maybe it's your driving style?

Hi there,

1500rpm is nothing , lucky to get to 20mph. This is when we are in traffic. You take off then you have to stop . Normal driving and fully aware it's more than 2 tonnes..

Can't believe there is knocking

Very hard to do so at the moment with tank full as noise has quietened down.

It it was made out to me that they have had a few enquiries about noise from the tank, but when asked about to go out in another one, it was passed off.

Just feel another nightmare coming on. Similar to those at mercedes! Was offered a car with broken diff for a month so that they could claim on warranty, or that after a repair ml came back with 4 loose wheel nuts and one missing

I can't help with your fault, but I was going to suggest popping along to Walton Audi as they were very good with me when I had clutch/dmf problems.

Happy to give you directions to them if it helps

Taken q7 out today and even in fall tank(not all the time) knocks.

Suggesring another issue! Suspension or prop shaft?

Dont know how to play this as it feels getting fob off.

If I complain people get upset and they don't want to help.
