Just a quick update on some well discussed topics, some which seem to be a little controversial and were definately not 100% clear (to me anyway)
1. I have the bluetooth low option with the iphone 5 cradle (iphone 5s IOS 7.0.3) and can now confirm that this is more than a mere charger. Without moving I get 2 bars when out 4 bars when in the cradle. I don't know how it does it, all I know is it does, to be honest I don't care.
2. The Colur DIS is simply class, I can't compare to anything else but I can just confirm that it was worth the 200 quid for the layered effect it gives.
3. The lighting package does not have LEDs in the main cabin lights (up on the roof) or boot, but it has LED footwell lights in both front and rear that stay on whilst driving. The door cards are downlit by strip LEDs that ron along the trim seam. The door handles have each got and LED that shines down on the outside. Each door has puddle LED lights. This was money well spent but purely aesthetic.
4. The AMI works with the red collared lead and adaptor,, but as mentionded in previous posts does not do video, in fact I've not got the iphone 4 to do video yet, but it's early days.
5. The offside mirror does not dip when reversing (folding mirrors with SD nav)
6. The Sports susspention 20" wheel combination is better (softer) than the Vauxhall Insignia sports suspension with 18" wheels, I'm not surprised at this but i was getting woried by what I'd read.
This has probably covered some ground that's been covered before but to me was not that clear. This is how it is.
I'm well pleased with the car, in fact overjoyed, not found any negative that would really bother me, just that I have a question regarding bluetooth streaming music, Is there a way to select tracks or do i just have to go through them 1 by 1 ? If this is how it is it makes it kind of thankless task.
Now let's wait for the creramic paint protection on Wednesday, let the fun and flames begin.
5. The offside mirror does not dip when reversing (folding mirrors with SD nav)
You should be able to activate it using VCDS. Very likley someone on the forum in your part of the world can help you with that.

Welcome and enjoy the car. Interesting about the cradle improving reception, would be great to hear from someone how it is doing this as there is nothing obviously in the phone to allow any form of phone connection via the connector. Regarding video. You will not get video from the iPhone 5 using the Apple adaptor, but will get album art work. For an iPhone 4 it should be there, but (officially!) you will only get video that has ben added to the phone via iTunes. If there is video on the phone then when in the AMI option go to the very top menu (keep selecting "Go Up", until you can go no more and you should see two options "Music" and "Videos" select "Videos" and the rest is self explanatory. If in that option you then on the phone itself select something like iPlayer or another video source it will switch to that media stream on the display. Clearly you need to have a data connection (wifi or 3g) on the device for that to be possible.
With Bluetooth streaming you have to control the track selection from the device not the car. Having selected the track you can do play, pause, next and previous (using the buttons by the volume control on the centre console) from the MMI but that is all. You cannot navigate the attached device from the car in the way you can with AMI

To make the offside mirror dip on my car the window switch has to be pointing left (for off side)

Thanks chaps,
I have ordered a VCDS setup, The offside mirror wont budge even if it's set to that side. It will tilt down on the nearside only when near side selector is selected. Surely left is nearside here in the UK (even Yorkshire) :) ? please clarify.
I assume the Iphone reception boost is Passive, I too was a little unsure of this but it works. If you'd like to see, i'll try and post some screen pictures of it.
I got the video working on iphone 4 once i spent a little time with it. The connector is a tad loose so think that is why it didn't work as it should yesterday.
All's good anyhow, think i can live without the bluetooth music control seeing i have AMI and a dedicated iphone 4 for only that purpose. If i connect a USB hard drive what functionalliy should I expect?

I'm fairly sure it's only the nearside (passenger side) mirror that dips, altough as jbanfie says, the mirror switch need to point to the left for it to activate. So sounds like it's working as it should.

I'm sure you're right. But it must be possible to enable driver side with VCDS, for LHD cars.

Just look in the driver door module and see if there is an option for mirror dip on that side.
Some cars with certain options had the passenger side dip enabled from factory so you use Mark's guide to enable it - A6 C7 VCDS Tricks (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=132245)

I have phone prep high, using iphone 4 and SIM in the dash, both on EE. The iphone has no signal improvement what's so ever, the signal levels side by side on the MMI screen show the car SIM to be considerably stronger by 2-3 bars and receiving 3G when the iphone has no data.
I guess it's entirely possible without the car sim capability, the GSM aerial leads to some kind of internal repeater, but why would it be limited to being in the arm rest? Have you considered the iPhone 4 antenna phenomenon, where when held it often has a lower reception than when not held. I live in a particularly low signal area, and the only way I can use my iPhone 4 at home is by using a bluetooth headset and not touching the phone.

Are you using the Audi iPhone 4 cradle via the connector pad in the armrest? The OP is using the iPhone 5 cradle and thus the phone is "better connected" to the car than might be the case with a simple bluetooth connection. However as the iPhone does not support rSAP an the connector does not have any ariel functionality (that I am aware of) it is strange that he is seeing a better signal level. Of course it may simply be that the car is better able to recognise the actual signal strength off the phone and display it rather than that transmitted via BT.

I've just been and double checked to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I get 1 or 2 dots out of the cradle and 4 dots in the cradle. I just rest it at the side but away from the cradle, but not far enough to make a big difference. I read the signal strength from the phone.
Considering that the original iphone 4 ariel issue was passive then it could be that the same phenomenon creates a better signal passively, I don't really know just a stab.

If the cradle is connected to the car's aerial could the signal be transferred from the cradle to the phone by induction?

I was watching the emails from the thread, and this was exactly my thought... It seems perfectly logical, and actually if looked closer at the opening topic might have assumed. I have never seen a phone prep low, does it connect via AMI, or is it different.
If the same I'd love to see a listing of available cradles, it would steer my next phone choice. Probably a new iPhone or S4 (or S5 if I can wait that long).

That's what I think, passive is induction, active would be through the conector. I wouldn't expect as much as 2 dots/bars though.

AMI is a seperate thing. The phone prep low is an extra conection specifically for the interchangable cradles to fit into. I'm not sure where there is a list of cradles though, in fact my dealer didn't know that the iphone 5 one was available. all i did was search for it in GGL and there it was. As a matter of interest the Iphone 5 sits in the cradle and the iphone 4 i use as an ipod with AMI sits alongside. In fact my new car is a bit like Phones r us, i have another iphone 5 dash mounted, that i use for work.

Hi, I also picked up my BE A6 today :). However, I noticed my car has the 'park assist' option - where it parks itself and what not - and don't remember choosing it from the options list and it isn't mentioned on the spec sheet I have for my car. So I was just wondering maybe if it was standard with the BE or A6 in general, do any of you guys have it?

No, not got that, you got a bonus :) Does it have the extra parking sensors on the sides?

Yeah it does, they're more deeply indented than the other sensors. I'm happy if I got it for free though :D shall test it out later on today - nice little party trick

If I'm honest I'm a tad jealous. Like you I wouldn't necessarily pay for it but I'd be happy to have it for nowt. This thing is like a barge any help to park it would be welcome ;)

Hi.
The park assist came as a part of the tech pack (wb3 or wb6) on the MY13 A6. If I was you I would check to make sure you have a MY14 car not MY13 Carib it was ordered on the MY14 car the tech pack would be WB4 or the tech pack advance WB7.
The only difference between the wb3 and wb4 is the 3 has park assist and the 4 has audi connect so you should have a sim slot in the dash.
Also if it's an MY14 avant the boot should open by waving you foot under the bumper.

Really?! It does come with an electric boot but I understand the foot wavy thing is only with the Advanced Key, order code PGB.

How do I check if its an MY13 or an MY14? I presumed that given the car was only delivered this week it would be the latest version or whatever...
And as for Audi connect, I have both the Park Assist function and the Audi connect (sim card slot in between the SD card readers in the dash) so not really sure what you mean

The sim card slot between the SD slots indicates you have tel prep high, this is packaged with the Advanced Tech pack on MY14 cars, previously on MY13 cars the Advanced tech pack differed, it did not have tel prep high but did have park assist.
When the production changed from MY13 to MY14, many dealers had customers who had spec'd MY13 cars who became upset they did not have park assist, and several people reported on this forum the dealers added park assist at no cost. This could be the explanation as to how you have it?

Model year 14 has DAB as standard and if its an avant it will have power tailgate as well. If not it's a my13.

I'm confused now, I chose the normal tech pack not the advanced and yet still have the sim card slot, so is my car an MY14 or not? :S

(1) Does it have DAB? If it hasn't it is a MY13 car. If it has DAB this test doesn't help as it could have been added as an extra.
(2) Put a SIM in the dash and get something such as online traffic working. Get a mobilephone and try to connect it with BT for making calls ( not streaming music) at the same time as using the SIM in the dash for ,e.g., traffic info. If you get this to work it's a MY14, if it won't let you have the SIM in the dash and a BT connected phone active at the same time it's a MY13 car.

Of course, you could just check the VIN to determine the model year - it's the 10th digit.

Wolkenkuckkuck has the cleanest answer; look at the 10th digit of the VIN (see reg docs or bottom left of windscreen), if the 10th digit is a 'D' the car is MY13 if the digit is an 'E' the car is MY14.

I've now enabled most of the tricks but having trouble with the VIM and dipping drivers mirror.
I cannot find the serial number in the Ross tech log data, do they call it something else?
As for the dipping mirror: the passenger one works as it should do but not the drivers. I have looked at the long code helper info for passenger door mirror and coppied it to the drivers side (bit 1 was unticked) but it still doesn't work, any ideas? Bit 2 was selected already on both sides.

Couldn't get the driver's side working on mine either, no idea why. Audi vaguery.
Also, my passenger side stopped working during a cancelled dipping operation, refuses to dip now. Audi vaguery.

There must be a way to do it, for left hand drive it works that way. Being new to VCDS it's not that easy but i'll not give up.

I think in 0s and 1s too, but it stopping working right in the middle of an operation leads me to believe that there are more errors in the Audi software than they know about. Too vague for my liking.
Good luck though.

No, quite the opposite. He has an MY2014 (confirmed above) but it came with Park Assist when it wasn't specced i.e. a freebie! You are quite right in that an MY2014 *shouldn't have* Park Assist as standard, though.

To get the SIM card slot you would have to have Audi Connect either through the phone prep high or tech pack, i think. Certainly not as standard though.

If the cradle is connected to the car's aerial could the signal be transferred from the cradle to the phone by induction?
YES! I have an old HP Palm Pre 3 that has the inductive charger 'touchstone' thingy that you stick on your desk and the phone attaches to it magnetically and charges without being plugged in. At home the T-mobile / EE signal is weak at best (although it finds 3G where my work phone on Vodafone does not).
Anyway, phone off touchstone I have to wander around the house to find enough signal to send / receive SMS. When it sits in the touchstone I get 2 or 3 bars. There is no antenna functionality on the touchstone so patently the phone is ("unconsciously") using the touchstone as an antenna... and probably the USB power cable attaching to the wall wart power brick.
Actually this is not as weird as it sounds... many mobile phones that offer an FM receiver capability require the headset to be plugged in as they use that as an antenna. I'm pretty sure it is a more intentional use of the headset as an antenna rather than an accidental use but the same principles probably apply.
My guess is that the iPhone is simply able to use relayed signals from the car loom to get better reception.
