I know we've not had snow yet but thought it better to be prepared for this years bad weather. Has anyone tried snow socks an A4? Do they work or are they an elaborate scam? Gotta be a whole lot cheaper than a set of winter tyres when I only need to get up one hill of approx. 200 yds before getting onto gritted roads.

tried them on my 80 a couple of years back. they work well. yes, you can go places ordinary tyres will just stop. but they are a faff to get on and off and if they hit tarmac they shred in a matter of seconds. you are far better off with a set of proper winter tyres really, as they are not just for grip on snow but better grip in cold conditions.

Have a pair in the boot from a year or two back, but I haven't used them yet. I think they are really meant to be a 'get you home' option and I'm sure they would do that well enough.

The one time the B8 was snowed in on the drive I only wanted to get a few things from the supermarket, so I put on a rucksack and walked leaving the car where it was....snowed in.
