Hi I have a 3l allroad for a couple of years that I'm very pleased with

Just wondering if anybody has tried non standard tyres - wider

I did this on my old Forester worked really well

Looked good and protected the wheels from kerbing, my wheels are starting to suffer!

Any replies much appreciated

This should help http://wheelcalc.com/ to see how the rolling circumference is changed.

Remember non-standard size of tyres you may need to inform your insurers.
