Hi all, I had my wiper out today and one of the arms was near stuck fast, removed the circlips and removed the 2 hinge parts gave them a good rub with some fine emery greased it all back up and what a difference, luckly the motor was not damaged as I have had this problem for quite some time now and was getting concerned that I might be damaging he motor, anyway after a bit of setting up to get the action working correct again, starting of from a fixed position rather than going down a touch like when I first gave them a swipe over the window *** seems good, after a bit of a tidy up at the bench I noticed one of the O-rings from inside the sleeve had come out when I was cleaning it out, is this here just to stop water ingress upwards? hopefully its not all the necessary as I would prefer not to take it all out again, thanks Chris

Hi Chris.
I had the same thing myself. The wipers were very slow from when i got the car.I was out in the rain when they stuck half way across the screen.bugger..
I had to get a second hand motor *** from a scrappy. The left hand post was very worn on mine. The right hand post was also worn on the scrappy one.I made one complete *** from the two.Result.I think the O ring goes on top.It might not tho.I dont think it makes too much difference. What a pain to set it all up.down before it goes up,too much up,not enough down etc.
I have repaired my wiper mech in the past and found that it lasted about a year. Further than repair a second time I brought a new mechanism from Audi, the replacement part had been updated, they now come with plastic "hats" over the top of the spindles to stop water ingress. I would recommend fitting the updated part to stop the fault reoccurring.
