View Full Version : Removing a subframe...

I need to get my power steering rack out and all of the 'how to's' or tutorials say that I need to remove the subframe to get it out.

Please excuse my stupidity, but im not 100% sure what it is, i've made an educated guess but dont know 100%!! Every tutorial drop it out with a few bolts, I can see a good 15-20ish that is in an around what I think is the frame.

Should this be in the haynes manual? (actually, should 'how to remove the power steering rack' be in there? I cant see it!).

I'm looking for rough guidance!

I usually avoid working on cars like the plague, im not a total moron as im from a technical background, but tend to not want to work on cars! Im forced into it this time as my car has died 2 months after ive taken on my first house (which is also a nightmare!)

Any help appreciated! Thanks! :crying:

(Audi A3, 54 plate. I've already tried the specific forum but had limited response)

You must use the correct alignment pegs to make sure the subframe goes back in the same place when you re-assemble.

Ok, thanks for your help. Doesnt really seem like a 'do at home' job for someone with my lack of experience. Absolutley gutted!

Personally I would say it is a lot more involved than a Mk4, a lot more bolts and all ally castings with the propensity for stripped threads.
