Hi All,
I am looking for some help and advice ref my 03 caddy tdi (64k miles old shape caddy) failing to start...turns over fine, fuel at injectors, no asv fault, timing belt ok...
Problems started last week when first started one morning and left it ticking over...went to drive away and lost all power, would only rev to 1200 rpm with flashing glow plug light... left van in drive and took car to work.... came back at night started van and no fault was present...took van for a run and drove fine, only hiccup was an intermittent rev counter- needle would over read occasionally.
next day the van started fine and ran perfectly- it did this for over a week and then I drove to work on Monday with no problems, came out to go home and it would not start...checked the obvious, no faults so called AA...he checked it and reckoned relay 109 was faulty...so new relay fitted and still no start- no glow plug light in dash either...
Tried to read fault codes using my vw specific Gendan code reader and it cannot link to vehicle..ok with our other cars though....
So have I missed something really obvious....or does anyone know what the problem may be? All fuses ok by the way...well the ones I know of....

Hope someone can help me!!

no glow plug light would suggest to me relay109
have you checked the feeds and earths at the relay plate itself?
check to see if you have a 12v feed at the fuel cut off valve if so relay109 is ok

Thanks for info - feed and earth all ok at relay mount, have not checked fuel cut off valve, but if I bypass relay 109 by placing ammeter in circuit between terminal 30 and 87 on relay socket I can get engine to run briefly-rough but it does run...still no glow plug light though. I have not yet checked for relay coil input at terminal 85 yet though- beginning to think possible ecu fault. Open to any and all suggestions......

meant to add that ammeter shows 1.65amp when in circuit and I still get no communication with diagnostic code reader....
