Hi All,

Just been told by the garage servicing my car that there is a nail in the rear NSR tyre which is too close to the wall for it to be repaired and so, the tyre needs replacing. I am now trying to find out if I need to replace just the two rears or due to the quattro system, if all 4 need changing?

I had all 4 tyres replaced in March for around £1k (275/35/R20's) and they are have about 6.5mm of depth on them so would prefer having to spend this again considering the life left in the tyres and the cost of the 70k service the car just had.

Hopefully someone can give me some guidance on this.

Cheers
Ryan

If you replace it like for like it will be fine.

As long as you have the same make and type on a single axle that's all that's required really

Hi Chris,

Thanks for that. I take it that it is still worthwhile replacing the rears as a pair.

Does the different sizes not have an impact on the center diff? I ask as I come from a Volvo background and with their older 4wd system, the Haldex system can be quite problematic with tyre replacements.

Your A8 is torsen, not haldex. Audi told me just to keep the same brand on each single axle as a minimum and ideal situation is for all 4 being the same.

I have replaced a tyre with a brand new one and the opposite being 70% worn and have had no issues.
