Yeah... I've had the wheel off and had a look, just looks like an electric motor attached to the caliper...
do you know if it can be done?

You can but there's potential for things to go horribly wrong. You can buy a brake reset tool on the interweb but it would probably be cheaper to pay an indie to do the work. Or maybe not.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gunson-Electronic-Park-Brake-Reset-Tool-/121148075950

That looks amazing! As long as it does the job...
do you know someone who has used one successfully?
ive just read the manual on the web, doesn't look too complicated.

I've never used one mate I used VCDS, last time I saw these on ebay last year it was £100. You need to have a booster pack or battery charger connected when youre doing the job

Whats the battery charger for?

the computer plus brakes consume lots of power from the battery and the voltage needs to be above a certain amount, so you need a charger for that.

You can use a 12v car battery connected to 2 jumper leads, disconnect the plug on the caliper, and touch the pins to wind it back, (if it starts to spin the wrong way swap the wires around, and dont touch the wires together!)
But even though I have done this with a mate in the past, something like VCDS is better if anyone near you has it.

I've done rear brakes on Passat and A4 B8 with electronic hand brake. With VCDS its easy to retract, and then reset. I would be inclined not to look at cheaper alternatives, and given brakes are safety related, would always use correct tools for the job. Perhaps getting someone to pop round in the morning with VCDS, wind off, then pop back a couple of hours later to reset for you..

Got to do mine soon, had an MOT done last month and Audi said rear pads were 80% worn but disc's were fine. Has anyone got a set of instructions I can follow on how to do this.... cheers

I'm after a set of instructions if available as well, I've had a quick search but can't find any I just keep getting redirected back to this thread :-)
I know someone with VCD's just need to make sure we do everything right.
EDIT: Sorry posted on the wrong thread! (looking for VW Passat B6 instructions)
