Hi

My CV gaitor has split, still attacheb and only split in the middle but want to get it repaired.

Question is whether this is a difficult job, anything i should look out for when doing it?

Chances are that dirt and water has gotten into the joint so the CV itself will fail quite quickly. Get a new joint, it will come with a boot, clips and grease as well as a new hub nut/bolt. It's not too difficult you need a torque wrench and axle stands etc
