Hi folks
First post on these forums. Here goes...
Hoping you might be able to shed a bit of light on a situation I have with an A4 I picked up from a Volvo dealership a week or so ago.
So this is our first Audi, upgrading from a (very reliable!) Focus we've had for years. It's an s-line avant with around 46000 miles on the clock. Everything was fine for the first few days, but the last couple of days it hasn't always started first time (not even trying to turn over). Sometimes it's taken 2 or 3 presses of the key to turn over, then it'll startup & run fine. Went out to have a proper look on Monday (most of the info was anecdotal from the Missus) & when I put the key in I noticed the 'Engine' icon (emission control system?) stayed on & the EPC light stayed on as well (after the others had gone off). Pressing the key in again (no clutch) cleared these icons. The car then started no problem. Tried the same thing again a bit later & there were no warning lights left on after inserting the key and the car started first time, so whatever it is, it's intermittent http://www.audiownersclub.co.uk/components/com_kunena/template/default/images/emoticons/unsure.png
TBH I'm not convinced the warning lights staying on (until it's started) and it not actually trying to start sometimes are related, but it's all I've got to gone on. I've not seen any lights or had any problems once it's started.
Having done a bit of googling, I've read it could be the crank position sensor? (although as I said, it seems to drive fine...once it's started). Is this something that affects the newer A4s?
It came with a Volvo warranty from the dealership. I'm going to talk to their service guys tomorrow (ideally I'd like to convince them it needs to go to an Audi dealership for scanning/fixing...which I believe is possible under the warranty).
Mrs Gutlord's pretty cheesed off as the Ford was so reliable & the Audi's already 'playing up' http://www.audiownersclub.co.uk/components/com_kunena/template/default/images/emoticons/sad.png
Any advice/thoughts appreciated!
