Hi,

Bought a 2010 A4 TDI saloon exactly two months ago.

Problem
When coming to a stop in start\stop mode, the engine cuts out as normal, but immediately after the engine switches off, I can hear a reasonably loud hum from behind the steering column. It lasts for about 1 second and then goes silent quite abruptly. This is only when in start\stop mode and isn't heard when turning the engine off using the ignition key.
Questions
Is this normal?
What could it be; given its location and the fact its only when in start\stop - a fuse, air-con fan (note: it is still noticed even if the AC is off)?
What are the VCDS electrical checks, could it identify a dodgy fuse\connection?

Thanks for taking the time to read though this and all input is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: The origional wordy post contained two additional issues with cold starts (probably me being over sensitive with the car) and the B&O (likely a one-off event and all is well now); however I will monitor these a bit longer before reposting.

silly question. do you have hill hold assist activated? could it be the Ebrake engaging/disengaging?

Hi,

No it isn't the sound of the handbrake engaging - the car doesn't have hill hold assist - I would have to manually apply the handbrake.

I may have a further look, but it is a bit difficult to investigate giving the circumstances - only occurring when stopping in start\stop mode.

I know mine doesnt make any noises when it cuts out with start/stop, mine is an MY2012 car.

Maybe someone with an MY2010 car will be able to comment further.

Thanks for this info.

If its uncommon, then I will take it to the dealer - as it an easy problem to demonstrate (happens all the time!).

Mine is an MY2010 car with stop/start, and I have never noticed any noise when stop/start is in use.
