Parked up in the services when this happened :aargh4::aargh4:. A guy driving a flatbed transit van decided to reverse into my car. His van was fully laden with heavy machinery. He hit the car with some force and the car shook.

He was about to drive off when I jumped out the car waving my arms and shouted at him to stop. To which he replied I never seen your car parked there. I need to get off I'm in a hurry and lost. To which I replied I will be contacting the police. You are not going anywhere.

I had a serve pain in my neck and felt very dizzy and light headed. The police arrived and called for an Ambulance as I looked pale & off colour. The paramedic thinks I have jarred my neck and that I’m in shock with the impact.

Now onto the car. I hope its not a write off.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Rappy.

Any kink on the roof or floor? What year? It's repairable but only a body shop can advise if it makes economic sense

My car is a 55 plate 2.0 tdi dsg sport. with 100k. it looks like a simple quarter replacement. The roof looks good and cant see any damage to the floor.

I would imagine around 2-3k to repair. I would say that the car is only worth around £3.5k

big job a rear 1/4 panel. touch and go really . lovely car to write off and buy back cheap though, 1 hour with a hammer and a dent puller would have that straight enough to look ok.

As above on the replies really, let the bodyshop/insurers decide and take it from there.

Car is being picked up in 1 hour and going to a VW bodyshop. I spoke on the phone and they said if its just the quarter around 2k. if its the floor or roof it will be wriiten off.

Fingers crossed. Love the car to bits. I know people like DSG :-) slate them but I cant mine has been ultra reliable.

If it will cost more than 50% of it's value to repair itI'd imagine they'd write it off. You can then buy it cheap and bring it to Zollaf :)

There's only one you. Let us know when you're back to normal self?

Did Police take driver details? If so they should give you an incident or CAD number
for reference to insurers.

How did you get yourself and car home? If driven, did it still drive alright streight and true?

Get well soon!

Rappy,

Main thing is yourself....

As for the car, I would doubt it will be written off looking at the damage. Bootlid, rear light cluster, alloy, glass and rear door all look untouched in the collision....so a 'straightforward' rear quarter repair.

When I had a significant side impact in mine 2 years ago (both doors, B pillar, seat airbags, curtain airbag etc) the claim value was over 5K on a car worth 7K...and it was repaired. Insurers don't write car's off as quickly these days (the old 50% of value rule seems to have changed)

Good luck

Rich

Thanks Guys.

Feel like s**t :-(:-(. Mrs Rappy got in from work last night to find me in a lot pain. She gave me an ear bashing for not calling her. And proceeded to take me to A&E.

Still in a lot of pain. Right hand side of my neck, and lower back. Nearly 2 days off work. Not good when you are self employed. Car is getting collected and hire car on route.

There really are some nice b'stards about, and we have to share the roads with them. What an attitude.

Hope you are ok, and that you get it sorted to your satisfaction.

Best wishes

You dont know the half of it.

How long are the police going to be. I need to get off. Any ideas where I am?. Shoving a map in my face. There is a crane hired to remove this machinery. I need to get off I'm late!!!.

To which I replied. I'm not really interested.

If I had been my normal self the guy would of been calling the police on me :-):-). Still not right now.

First day out in a car today. In a lot of pain, not good :-(:-(:-(.

Probably teaching granny to suck eggs here, but make sure you get what you want. If it is repairable, and you are happy with that, but they say it will cost too much, push them.

One of my daughters had a rear end write-off, the repair was borderline but she and her husband didn't argue strongly enough, imo, and the money they got paid for a replacement, but never of the same 'quality'. Their car was special to them, as I'm guessing, yours is.

Where did these leeches get the info from? There's only been the other party, police, and your own insurance co involved?

Car hire company probably, who definitely won't be in a hurry to get it back, and will be hoping the repairs take ages. Might also be rapport's insurance company, since they won't be paying for anything. It's a merry-go-round of parasites making money on the back of this 'accident', and all of it will be paid for by other car drivers in the form of increased premiums.

There are supposedly moves afoot to stop it.

It's the giving out of rapport25's contact 'phone # which is interesting. I'm no expert but isn't this against Data Protection Act?.
So they must've come from one of those involved -- and bound by the Act

When I was involved in a bump in my a3 even tho he paid me cash but I did inform my insurance just to cover myself, I got about 10 calls from ambulance chasers asking if I wanted a hire car, injury claim etc. I can only assume it was my insurance company who passed my number on. That was well over a year ago now.

You MUST keep at your doctor for more proactive treatment if the pain doesn't start to ease - many of them seem to be quite happy to keep dishing out painkillers without actually trying to resolve the underlying problem.
