Hi
Hi would like to upgrade the stereo in my 2008 passat to a DAB unit, will the rds310 or rds510 unit fit in without any additional parts? And is it a easy job to do?

many thanks

What stereo do you have at the moment? If its an rcd310 its a straight swap but with the extra hassle of routing to a dab aerial, which if your serious should at least be a windscreen mounted external type.

Only thing in not sure about because of the different LCD colour is how it will interact with your red-dot MFD (if you have highline) as these units were made to pair up with the white-dot colour MFD from 2009 onwards...

Thanks for your reply. I have heard others say that the battery will drain on certain cars, do you know if this will affect mine?

If you have an rcd 310 it definitely won't. If you've got an rcd300/500 then it may, but if you ask the dealer they will be able to tell you for certain whether you have the upgraded can bus gateway

Dunno about your CANbus gateway as your's is a 2008MY, generally a "F" and onward is alright and doesn't give battery drain issues with an RCD510 You can see what gateway you've got by:
removing your Climatronic knobs, the existing radio's surround (remove bulb holder from surround without removing the connector if the surround gets in your way), remove Climatronic unit (four T25 screws) and remove the three plugs.
If you've got Climatic there's a Bowden cable there that's difficult to remove and replace correctly so better that not be disconnected
Behind the Climatic or Climatronic unit is the CANbus gateway held in place by two bolts and a bar across. The bolts need only be loosened. If you've got slim wrists reach in and lift out the module. Untwist the module's cable without removing plug if posssible and you should be able to see a 3c0 number ending in a letter. Mine's a "C" so can't upgrade to RCD or RNS510 without an upgraded module.
Easier though is to get someone with VCDS to do an Autoscan. You'd then get:
Address 19: CAN Gateway Labels: 3C0-907-530-V1.clb
Part No SW: 3C0 907 530 C HW: 3C0 907 951 A
CANbus gateway rev: ^^^
Component: Gateway 007 0040
Revision: 00007000 Serial number: 0700C0621500F6

Can't post help file here or by Fileattach in a PM to you as it's 2.8MB. Not gonna post my e-mail address in open forum as that's an invitation to spam bots, identity theft, etc.

I got Hazzy Dayz to do my steering wheel upgrade to MFSW together with red hi-line MFD. Needed upgraded steering wheel controller and small loom (dual stage airbags here) for this. Kit fitted in my sig doesn't show Navi next turn, track info, or phonebook in MFD but with Connects2 interface get "Audio" menu which gives me MFSW control of the headunit. And voice dialling with a compatible 'phone.

Perhaps our moderator extrordinaire in here will adjust your PM status so as to allow you to PM me?

Anyways, with the other replies you've got hope that helps?

Richard, you can PM anybody regardless of their post count.

If you leave a space or put in some * your email won't be picked up by spam bots

Hi Richard, thanks for the info. Did you have to change the central convenience module when you fitted the MFD & MFSW, (I had the chance of getting that too - but didn't...)?

Regards

Jom

P.S Where are you guys located, could do with my mileage resetting to match car, (when I get around to fitting it) - looking for someone that could do that??

No, still the same from factory on my '06MY:
Address 46: Central Conv. Labels: 3C0-959-433-46.clb
Part No SW: 3C0 959 433 K HW: 3C0 959 433 K
Component: KSG PQ46 ELV 038 0455
Revision: 00038000 Serial number: VWZCZ000000000

You can get a few more features with the CC Central Convenience module starting with 3c8 but not enough for the cost for me. I'd go for it if I could get Auto-autohold but, like some other convenience features, that needs the corresponding module to be a CC's too

VCDS won't do mileage re-setting on a B6 used cluster, think there are tools on the 'net that will though.

Not a firm here, Blackheath SE London.
