Hi, Just took the kids to park and the words "particulate filter" came up on the digital screen between the speedo and revs. then straight away the glow plug symbol was flashing! got home and scanned my car woth the following faults on engine. I was aware of the intake manifold one not too concerned about it. im particularly nervous about the EGR and DPF etc though?

any thoughts? shall i regenerate?

Thanks

G

EGR sounds like its clogged according to rosstech - http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16785/P0401/001025

DPF needs an emergency regen http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/18895/P2463/009315

And http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Diesel_Particle_Filter_Emergency_Regeneration

Been driving around town lately? Stop/start?

gdallas
16-08-2013, 04:37 PM
hmm. not really tbh Chris. i always like to exercise her now and again too to try and burn it out. is there a preference between standing regen and moving?

zollaf
16-08-2013, 04:41 PM
g450, the sensor that senses the pressure in the dpf is not working according to that as it has an implausible signal. probably needs a new one but they are easy to do at about 60 quid a pop and 10 mins to change. then a regen by driving should do it. appatrently thats the sensor that totally unavailable at the moment as vw have fitted all the new ones they had. its the sensor on top of the engine with one electrical plug and 2 rubber pipes that go into steel pipes.

gdallas
16-08-2013, 04:44 PM
ah! so do you think the sensor was gone therefore was unable to detect whether a regen was even required in the first place?

Guest 2
16-08-2013, 04:45 PM
Ah didn't see the pressure sensor - on my phone so didn't show all your post - doh!

Pressure sensor common to go, get it changed and all will be well again.

so I should regen as per this 3.0l V6 TDI (BKS/BMK/BUN) - Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/3.0l_V6_TDI_(BKS/BMK/BUN)#Particle_Filter_Emergency_Regeneration)

also, I have electrical cleeaner spray, shall i try cleaning the sensor first lads?

zollaf
16-08-2013, 04:50 PM
you could try cleaning it but i doubt it will work and without it working you won't be able to do any sort of regen, not that i know of anyway.

oh i see. will my car be ok to drive?

My sensor was replaced last month and the specialist advised me against driving until it was changed to prevent damage or clogging to the dpf, as if the sensor is kaput, then it will not re-gen.

I dont know if there is still a shortage, but if there is, there were a few genuine new ones on the german ebay for reasonable money.

That link seems to be for older V6 TDI.

Look in adaption and there should be a drop down menu and look for DPF regeneration

This is from myturbodiesel but for a 2.0. See if its there anyway

** this seems to be for a 3.0 A5 - http://www.a5oc.com/forums/audi-a5-s5-tech/27554-security-access-key-vagcom.html

Can't see that! ;)

But by going by the A5 link I posted above, you should be doing it while driving going by the instructions posted.

Edit - yeah sounds like it on the one you've highlighted.

tbh I think audi should proovide a spare DPF sensor in the same way as they provide a spare tyre.

Has anyone with a 3+ yo B8 not had this problem?

gregpot2000
18-08-2013, 12:10 PM
Also changed my sensor last year. I'm on 118k at the moment and have never seen the dpf light once in 2years. I know on paper that it may be due changing soon. When it's due changing would there be any symptoms? Does not having any problems in 2years mean it still has a lot of life in it?
Sorry for hijacking the thread, but thought it was relevant and may interest others as well

Had it go on my A3, Audi changed it however as it was under warranty.

DPF warning, flashing glow plug and engine light. VCDS confirmed what I thought it was.

Actually second inspection I think this could be it? 21966

The part no has now superseded from 07Z 906 051 B to 059 906 051 A ...

... if the sensor is kaput, then it will not re-gen.

Indeed this is correct as sensor G450 has a hose sensing pressure before DPF and second mid or end and the difference between the two determines loading, etc ...

sorry try this 21975

On A4 B8 2.0TDi the regen will only work if either the calculated or measured soot mass is above 30g but below 40g do not know if this is the case for the 3.0 TDi but most practises are similar in VAG stuff IMO ...

Also G450 on A6 2.0 TDi CR engine need adapting when renewed, I would think same for A4? ... Link:- How To Fault code 001137 P0471 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?118070-Fault-code-001137-P0471)

*** edit ***

Just read service guide for an A4 B8 3.0 TDi it state for G450 after renewal adaptation to reset learned values must be done

thanks for taht gupsterg. I just tried to regen with these insturctions however, it never starts, it aborts due to saftey reasons! not sure what to do, if i should just replace the part anyway. cant even be sure if its faulty now.

I did the regeneration following way:
1. Start the engine. Start vcds and enter to Engine.
2. Enter security access. VCDS should show the correct code when you hower the cursor on the code field. (For my motor it was 27971) If you type wrong code you have to shut down the engine, turn off the ignition and also restart the VCDS.
4. Enter basic settings
5. From drop down list select something like service regeneration or emergency regeneration(can't remember what was it called, but you should be able to regognize it from the list...)
6. click GO/start below drop down list.
7. Do as you are instructed by VCDS("push cluth and brakes, release them, push brakes, release it, push throttle, release it, etc..")
8. It should then run through regeneration process and tell you when it's done.

Hope this helps.

is there a way i can measure the soot mass mate, with my vcds for peace of mind? is there also a way i can test g450 to see if its still knackered! or if it was just a glitch. not faults have appeared since i cleared yesterday.

Your car is a UDS protocol car ...

For controllers using the UDS/ODX/ASAM protocol, the Measuring Blocks function is not available and you MUST use Advanced Measuring Blocks instead.

Extract from Link:- Ross-Tech: VCDS Tour: Measuring Blocks (http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/m-blocks.html)

For control units with UDS (Unified Diagnostic Services) the conventional measured value blocks with zones 1 to 4 have been eliminated. There are now only measured value channels, e.g. engine speed, coolant temperature, etc. So the desired measured value channels must first be manually selected before the measured values can be displayed.

With the newer CR-TDI engines there are 2 different types of regenerations available depending on the actual soot mass/load.

If either the calculated or measured soot mass is above 30g but below 40g you can initiate a regeneration while standing (Idle will be raised etc.), a forced regeneration while driving is also possible.

Once the values are above 40g (but below the max 45g) the regeneration while standing is no longer available and the regeneration while driving is the only way.

The other prerequisites must apply also stated here Link:- Diesel Particle Filter Emergency Regeneration - Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Diesel_Particle_Filter_Emergency_Regeneration)

I believe you must view :-

MVB 108.2: Particle Filter Soot Mass (calculated) Alternate group 241.2 if 108 is blank
MVB 108.3: Particle Filter Soot Mass (measured) Alternate group 241.3 if 108 is blank

On the V6 TDi before yours the old MVB had this info (if above don't apply then look for headings below in advanced measuring blocks):-

104 Particulate filter
Only on vehicles with particulate filter
Oil ash
[Ltr]
Soot mass calculated
[g]
Soot mass measured
[g]
Distance since last regeneration
[km]

ok, so i went ahead and bought a new sensor at my local audi dealer. they had one left and warned they are backorder and hard to get hold of just now....

so when i replace this, i guess i need to adpat it. howver, from memory, "Coding II - 11" button is greyed so not sure how i then adpat it? any tips?

I don't know if help you or not but use at your own risk!

Whilst googling around I came on this Link:- http://www.gerritspeek.nl/vag-com_procedures.html

Exhaust Pressure Sensor (G450) Teach

Proceed as follows:

car on contact,
start VCDS ( VAG-COM ), go to [01 - Engine]
go to [Login - 11]
30605 = adjustment for Exhaust Pressure Sensor 1 (G450)
note: Turn the adjustment after the contact for at least 10 seconds!

or
Proceed as follows:

car on contact,
start VCDS ( VAG-COM ), go to [01 - Engine]
go to [Settings - 10]
select channel 12 and read the value in field 5
set this value to "0"
press "Test" and save the value
Enter the [Encryption II - 16] in the code 30605
note: Turn the adjustment after the contact for at least 10 seconds!

As above is a translation from Dutch to English and first procedure is unavailable on yours the second procedure would be IMO:-

access [01 - Engine] via VCDS
access [Adaptation - 10]
select channel 12 and read the value in field 5
set this value to "0"
press "Test" and save value
select [Security Access -16] , enter code 30605

The red test in quote I can not make any sense of but my best guess would be to turn off car for at least 10 seconds before turning on again as that is what is highlighted for first procedure on the method that c4a5er used linked here Link:- How To Fault code 001137 P0471 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?118070-Fault-code-001137-P0471)

I would assume your readings for soot MVB would go down to 0 after a successful sensor adaptation, these would then rise as car is used/new sensor get right reading. My understanding is you're clearing the learnt values from the ECU to be then relearned.

To me the MVB data look OK from reading posts of others with DPF issue, I'm just an owner that spends too much time on the forum :) ...
Crasher is a very experienced VAG guy, A8 Tech is another and super hot on Audi stuff and Baylissboy ...
Perhaps PM them :) ...

So you can't select channel 12 manually? you only get a drop down list?
You may have to wait till Ross Tech give you some info, if do find anything for you will post ...

Did you send Rosstech an email yet? They're pretty prompt in replying.

This rings a bell however, I know on my A3 when I was fitting cruise you had to go into somewhere but mine was greyed out and had to use another button, when the Mrs comes back from shopping I'll go and check.

Hey Ive been trying to adapt my dpf sensor on my enginge(CAGA) aswell here is what I did. However im not sure it worked.... open the engine -> security access and enter the code.22050 then I just turned off the ignition and locked the car for 10-20seconds. Please if this is an incorrect method please fill in what I have missed so I can make it correct and make a new howto on this. EDIT: If its not clear I entered the code as instructed and pressed "Do it!"

Im starting to get an idea how it works now. Channel 12 is the real value of the sensor and you correct this to zero just like with your scale in the bathroom by changing the value to zero before stepping on it. Makes sense now that I think about it.

ok the word on the st from Rosstech is:

The only operation that applies to pressure sensor calibration is Basic Settings group: Resetting of learned values of difference pressure sensor. This control module does not support or require the Adaptation function. Neither Login or Coding II functions apply either, the Security Access function is used and 27971 is the most common SA code for this type of EDC.

If the DPF was replaced (or removed and cleaned) you would also want to run the Resetting of learned values of particle filter Basic Settings operation.

If you have reoccurring DPF fault codes please send a scan with those stored so we can search for TPIs or dealer level flash updates for known issues. For example, Audi has TPI 2021365/4 for the specific concern "After replacing the diesel particulate filter the programmed value in the engine control unit cannot be reset" but there may be several others - depending on the faults or repair history.

Note - 2.0litre CAGA engine

I have just ran through this sequence today and can confirm 01 - Engine then select Security Access - enter code 12233 - code accepted - back to Basic Settings/Adaptation of Differential Pressure Sensor.
Click Go and it came back 'Success'. -

Many Thanks to the previous posters.
Strange though - My Meas Blocks & Coding options were also greyed out so I couldn't check the actual dfp soot values.
