I've got a Mk5 Golf aith the RDS300 single slot CD player, I've seen a kit on ebay to 'trick' it into thinking there's a CD changer when infact it's a small box that you can plug a USB flash drive into it. Has anyone got one like this? Does it work? Also, how do you remove the CD player?
Cheers
post the link to ebay please. Most curious.

Hi, the Ebay item number is: 280147721099. It seems quite clever but I'm a bit sceptical and was hoping to see if anyone has tried one of these, it's about £50. How easy is it to get the CD player out?

Doesn't say that it works with the RCD 300 / 500 though

I purchased one of these a few weeks ago off the same seller. I have it hooked up to a Gamma head unit with the box hidden away in the glovebox and its the muts nuts! Seller provided me with tools to remove my cd player. Ask him if he provides them for yours?

Mut's nuts eh? Sounds good, :D
How easy was it to install? I was looking at a link on one of the other threads and they guy had taken the air vents out and all the surrounds of the CD player!

It was simple to install. 15 min job.
Removed radio and CD player using keys supplied,
Mounted xlink box in glove box, drill hole to rear of box for cables.
Feed cables through to rear of head unit and connect
Push radio & CD player back into place.
Job done!

If you're removing the cd unit from a mkV then you'll have to take the vents etc. off. I swapped my rcd300 unit recently for an mp3 rcd300 unit. If you follow the instruction via the link you'll be ok. Only took me about 15/20 minutes- spent 5 mins looking for the right size screwdriver.

I can help asking why you would want to when you can buy a FM transmitter for your MP3 player, which is far easier, cheaper and doesn't involve taking things apart or cutting things about.:boggled:
For £20 or so you can just plug it in to an MP3 player, set it to 107,1 or wherever you have an empty frequency and play!:)

point taken, but would rather not have loads of wires trailing all over the place. Plus, by the time I'd sold my old headunit the new mp3 one had only cost me £40- so not too bad.

Id be interested in a group buy - I have an audi A4 B6 so may rope in a few others??? Paul
Is your solution the same as this, from Connects2:
http://www.connects2.com/c2search.aspx?catID=52&manID=235&modID=782
Connects2 tell me this fits with the RCD300 too, and can be controlled by it.
Not sure i fancy fitting it myself - anyone know a good fitter in north london?
