Hi guys,

Hope someone can help me with this.

It has started 3 weeks ago, my car would take a few attempts to start up, it then got progressively got worse and when I was driving it felt like it was about to stall, I took it to the vw specialist garage. They have diagnosed the problem and said it’s the wiring loom.

The next day it got worse as I was driving it seemed like it would cut off and finally it happened, my car got cut off while I was in traffic. Could not start it up or nothing.

The brake down jump started it and I got it to the garage, they done the wiring loom problem and installed a new battery.

I thought this was fixed, until yesterday the same problem has happened again, its struggling to start up and takes 5 or 6 attempts and sometimes when it starts up the engine stalls again.

I took it to the car mechanic; he has diagnosed the problem and cannot find a fault?

Some notes: about 7 weeks ago, a car reversed into me, front bonnet was damaged, got it fixed. That was when the problem started happening, 6 months ago I accidently put in 40p of petrol by accident also the brake down guy said that the car was blowing black smoke but this is when its struggling to start up, he recommended the mechanic see the egr valve. The fuel injectors were replaced by VW last year when I brought it, it was under warranty?

Any help would be fantastic as I am struggling with it at the moment.

An update, my vw specilist who replaced the loom wire have said, they cannot find the issue and could be the fuel injectors and recommend I take it to the VW dealer.

Got a call from the VW dealer who has said nothing is showing up on the computer and he is gussing at the moment so it could be the wires to the fuel injector but want a confirmation from me so they can get the master tech guy to have a look within the 3 hours. which I have (£89 an hour :( ) I have given a go ahead...I hope they get to the bottom of the problem.

does the loom wire replaced sound faulty as I had it replaced, the car was working fine for 4 days and the problem started happening again.
what can the issue be if the problem is not showing on the computer

Help help help :(

it's depend on a garage. fuel filter is due to replace at every 40000 miles. many times people ignore it. and that can cause a problem you gettin. is easy to look up. just unbolt top of filter housing and remove insert. then you can see if is dirty.

And try getting a VCDS Autoscan and post here? That'd give more info as there's many
diesel experts in here. I'm not one!

Hi guys

Good news and bad news, the master tech guy has had a look and has said, my injector seals are leaking and this could be the problem when it is cutting out when driving?

what do you guys think

There's a free recall for injectors. Check to see whether it applies to your car? VW main agent will tell. Or VWUK

Hi Richard,

I did ask the VW dealer about the injector recall however his telling me these arnt the injectors but the seals..if it was the injectors they would have replaced them free of charge...is this correct???

Go to another main dealer. Ask for the free injector recall. Or check with VWUK to see if applicable to your car

I'm not a diesel head, but from what I've seen in posts, the seals are a white ring around the injector?
(Working from hazy memory since I don't really take note of diesel engine posts, just skim through them)
Which is why I'll stand corrected by those who do know their diesels in here.
It would be strange IMO if injectors were changed using old seals! But hey, let the experts weigh in...

Oh, and if you're due a free injector recall, it'd be done whether the old ones were faulty or not

Glad you have got it sorted. Come to think of it mine has been playing up since I replaced the fuel filter (genuine part) can this be put in incorrectly? Also Shaz, how much did it cost to get the injector seals replaced? Thanks.

The white ring I refererred to is for petrol-engine injectors.

Curious about rest though... Do they really do a free injector recall and use the old existing seals?
