View Full Version : Tyres suggestions for A6 on 19' wheels?

Hi all
I have 2012 A6 3.0 quattro TDI, on standard 17 inch rims, with 225/55/17 Pirelli Cinturato tyres, which are rather less than performance ones. On the slow or rough roads they are ok, but fast cornering or in wet conditions they are rather weak.
After some debating I decided to change rims to audi 19', which needs 255/40/19 tyres, but now the big question is - which ones? I used before Goodyears Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2, but in different size, they were pretty good. But then, there is a question, standard ones have labels C/A/71dB, while Audi-homologated (AO designation) ones are E/C/70dB?
Or maybe some other choice would be better? I care mostly for low noise since I'm often doing very long trips over high speed motorways like in Germany.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Chris

For 19" you need 255/35/19 not /40. Is your A6 a C6 or the new model C7?

The C7 takes /40 profile.

I had a set of Michelin PS2 255/35/19 and they have lasted 32k so far only the front two needed replaced due to bad alignment on the car.

I also had those Goodyears and they lasted 12k with the same driving style as the michelins so definitely something wrong there.

Do a quick search, there was a topic recently so try 'tyres' or 'barum'

Hi Chris
I probably wasn't clear enough, it is C7, so size is 255/40/19.
I was looking at Michelin, but judging from EU labels they have slightly worse parameters than Goodyear. But honestly I have no idea how close those labels are to the real world.
On the other hand, some years ago I had bad experience with Michelin, front tyres after few months started to wear very unevenly (I'm not sure how to call it properly), tyre surface started to look and feel like tiny steps, which resulted in very noisy driving, Michelin refused to replace them or in fact to do anything, blaming the car suspension, which was fine BTW.
Anyway, that was probably just bad luck.
