You may need a canbus replacement due to battery drain on some models upgrading.
This thread has all the info - Question Fitting RCD 300 to RCD 510 in a 2006 Golf GTI using VCDS - Can it be done? (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?142259-Fitting-RCD-300-to-RCD-510-in-a-2006-Golf-GTI-using-VCDS-Can-it-be-done)

Only need the replacement CAN Gateway if its pre-2008 as the late MK5s already have the new one

Should be fine, check with VCDS that the Gateway suffix is higher than a " K "

Your canbus should be fine after mid 07 onwards. Fitted rcd510 DAB in my 2008 ok. Got it from turbo_herbie on ebay, they fit new rns510's into brand new vags, and then have loads of rcd510 DABs to sell ;O)) £220 delivered for a virtually new unit. You will need a fakra connector for £8 as well off the bay.

Yup you will 100% be fine with a 2008 Golf. Can do without the fakra adaptor too, I fitted one to mine and it didn't really seem much better than just using one antenna socket. A DAB unit will require a new antenna though.

aww cheers lads :D would really prefer to keep a stock headunit in the car fed up with this whole going out paying the price for aftermarket and my car looses value lol
