I have an opportunity to get an A6.

I have an A4 currently in great condition. I've owned her for 30 months from new on a PCP with low ish mileage. My A4 is an S Line with cruise control rear parking standard audi stereo( 10 speakers 180 watts)..etc.

between all my past cars with Audi I've paid close to 30,000 so far so I know the deal of paying out and the loss in value of cars....( that's my wife's bit)

The A4 has depreciated a lot to my surprise. I know every car depreciates as soon as its off the forecourt but I didn't see a 50% drop( not including the deposit) in just over 2 years...a new A4 to be unveiled shortly won't help it's value as will the arrival of the a3 saloon.

Anyhow, I m weary about buying new and the missus especially so as i ll be remortgaging again with a car that will depreciate also. I have been offered a good deal on an A6 S line and Black edition. They are taking off approx 5000 on list price which is standard and giving me 1000 more than my car is worth totalling 6000 off. Monthly payments will be more but only about 50 pounds more per month, no deposit.

Is the A6 a worthy upgrade seeing that ill be gaining sat nav, leather seats etc. more supple ride.... anyone on here made the move from an A4 S Line and not looked back? Is the standard music system on the A6 S Line better than that on the A4 s line or do they sound more or less the same using an sd card?

i ll need to make a decision fairly soon so ill appreciate any opinions out there.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, this depreciation always gets me - they say that Car A is worth X amount after 3 years e.g. worth 50% of the initial cost but you try buying one for that price!

I don't have experience of moving from an A4 to an A6 (came from a Passat) but from what I've gleaned from this forum I think you will find it a real step up. Personally I think it's a great car which no doubt will be echoed by those that have made the move.

Go for it! :D

I'm actually considering downgrading to an A4, the new facelift models look very nice and I can get a significant discount from Audi if I order new.

I do like the C7 though, next year will probably see me change to an A4 or C7, I'm not totally made up yet though.

I had a standard SE car on loan at the beginning of the year and it was very nice. What put me off was the multitronic gearbox though which was fitted to that particular car.

If you look here you'll see all the standard equipment of the A6 - My 2013 (SE) A6 Courtesy Car .. (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?142091-My-2013-(SE)-A6-Courtesy-Car&highlight=2013+courtesy)

I've made the exact move up you are considering - from an 09 plate a4 sline 143 tdi to the c7 a6 sline 177 tdi. From my experience, the A6 is a huge step up - not only in ride, but general fit and finish and overall quality. The spec level is such that you really need to add very little to the standard spec on the A6. Standard stereo is fine (though if you go for the black edition you'll get the Bose) more than loud enough for me! The A6 feels like a luxury car, where the a4 feels like it's been engineered to a cost for a customer more interested in badge than anything else

as for prices - 6k off seems a little bit 'tight'... I'd suggest getting an Internet quote from drive the deal or orangewheels (orangewheels will do you a trade in too if required) discounts of 7k+ are achievable before taking any trade in into account. Again from experience the buying process is really simple - the car was delivered by a midlands audi dealership and could not have been any easier.

in summary - get the A6 you won't regret it - and if you're not sure about laying out the cash, don't test drive it because you'll want it!

good luck!

I purchased one last week only extra was heated seats on a black edition avant quoted a few internet brokers and got £7000 off before my deposit, I suggest you push for more, I could have got a little more off by using a broker but not much, but this was for one in stock in another dealer in the country so only 2 week wait.

i ll need to make a decision fairly soon so ill appreciate any opinions out there.

I'm looking at doing exactly this... 59 S line A4 to MY14 S line A6. I think it's where I will end up, although I have put some real effort into researching other options. I have test driven a Jaguar XF 2.2 Sport and a Lexus IS 300h F Sport in the last few week - both were not competition for my A4, I thought, so the A6 must be better. Funnily enough, today I finally dumped Sheffield Audi, way too frustrating dealing with those guys to try and get a suitable test drive arranged. So I'm going to try another Audi dealer.

That said, I might still go with another A4. At first I was thinking to myself "why get another A4 if it's just had a facelift and shiny bits added to buttons?" but I am slowly finding out, continuing my research, that the A4 has Audi Connect and will get the ability to have a SIM card, like the A6 and all the cool connected stuff, as well as 7-digit postcodes for nav. which I was told it didn't(?) by Audi. The difference will be no MMI Touch and no whizzy fold-out screen and a normal sized DIS. If going Black Edition, I don't believe you get privacy glass on the A4, but you get a flat-bottomed steering wheel - it's the opposite on the A6. Options like Advanced Key cost less on the A4, even though I think they do nearly the same thing (especially relating to the doors, anyway).

I think it's time I had an A6. That Lexus was quite fun to drive around, though, I must admit.

Re depreciation and residuals, I've been having a look at getting back into my company car scheme.

A 35k A6 would cost me less than a 32k A4 (list prices quoted). It must be something about residual values.

Anyway, have decided i'm staying with my 6 yo C6 for a while yet. It's done me 105k miles since new so I figure depreciation isn't a problem any more.....:D

I've done this move, 2008 B8 A4 2.7 multi to 2013 A6 Black Edition 3.0. and don't regret it at all. My A4 was on optional 18" wheels and the A6 on 20" rides better and quieter. Perhaps the only downside for me was that the B & O stereo in the A4 sounded better than the Bose in the A6. Before I settled for the A6 I test drove an XF 2.2 and while I thought it was good, the A6 seemed a bit "classier" for want of a better expression. I also considered an Evoque but the less said about the local Land Rover dealer, the better. I'd never known such arrogance from a car dealer before. I've said this in other posts but I don't think that you would regret the change.

When I was choosing my car (last year), I tried the A4 (Avant) and while the car was good, I would say that the A6 is in a different league. Apart from the ride (better on the A6) and look and feel of the car (better on the A6), the real BIG difference is the space in the car - especially at the back - both leg room and luggage space.

However one aspect that you do need be aware of, living with an A6 is that, it is a LARGE car - I find getting it in and out of some car parks is a task that you have to take care with, in order not to damage the wheels (on some poorly positioned kerbs) and some tight turns that clearly have been designed by someone who has not ever driven anything bigger than an mini...!

In addition you have to think twice about parking in some parking bays as you do take up a lot of the width and you never know if the person parked next to you will take care opening their doors.... I agree that this danger exists with every car - even the A4 - but because the A6 is just that bit wider and longer the risks are higher...

But saying all of this.... the A6 was my choice

Thanks to you all who replied. Made my decision easier.

Well I got past the wife(she wanted me to get a Q5)......

I have officially ordered an A6 Black Edition Multitronic in Phantom Black, heated front seats and folding mirrors. It's a stock car so will pick it up in a couple of weeks. Will miss my A4 S-line but its time for an upgrade. Got a cracking deal too, after a couple of months of research, got a huge discount, matching some of the deals I ve seen on here and better than orange wheels.

Cant wait. .
