View Full Version : Multitronic engine run-in?
Hi guys,
I'll pick up a 2.0 Multi after the holidays, and have a run-in question.
On a manual, you're in charge of the revs and when to change gears.
On a multi, you're not, so how do you ensure you're staying at the appropriate revs depending on mileage done?
Is the gearbox clever enough to do it for you?
Thanks

My understanding of modern cars is that they dont need to be run in, obviously dont kick the **** out of it at first...

You can, by using the flappy paddles, over ride to a certain extent the behavior of the box. But so long as you don't rant it it wont rev too high anyway.

Thanks.
Although I have to admit I am quite sceptical about new engines not needing run-in, which seems to be confirmed by other members talking about the engine "loosening" and MPG improving.
I wouldn't go crazy anyway. I'll just need to find out what's the best way to "loosen" the engine.

If I remember correctly, in the handbook it does say to stay below 2000rpm. for the first 1000 miles. If left in auto this is no problem unless you hoof it because the revs stay pretty low anyway and it still goes well.
