View Full Version : Wipers gone funny

Not funny haha but funny - not working properly.

I noticed a few weeks ago when cleaning that the wipers move freely from the parked position - i.e. you can move them up and down the window with little resistance from the motor. I have never forced them nor had I noticed this before but can't really say I'd been looking for it.

so, last week my wife thinks to tell me that they haven't been wiping properly for a few weeks. The left blade judders horribly and make an awful sound as it travels over the screen. I checked this when washed her (always washing her lol) and this is indeed correct. The drivers side wipes fine but the passenger side is just not right.

I know its not the blades as these were changed 4 or 5 months ago and are still like new so its got me thinking it might be the motor given the free movement I've noticed.

Has anyone had anything similar happen or had any experience of this?

Any help/suggestions welcome - I have a trader warranty so need to speak to them and make sure this is covered but would rather start out armed with knowledge!

TIA :)

Is there any wax on the screen or any other detailing/washing spray?

Make sure the nuts at the bottom of the wiper arm are tight ;)

What blades did you fit as replacements?

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I fitted Bosch blades from Audi (was feeling flush lol)

I've not waxed the screen or used speed detailer on the glass on the Audi. I have used SD on the BM though and it still wipes fine...

its funny that its only the left arm that's effected by this. Does anyone else have free movement in the mechanism from the parked position (you can move one arm and both will change position if that makes sense)? It doesn't seem right to me...

It could be a defunct wiper motor? I had this issue on my recently departed A6.

If it helps I checked mine today when I cleaned it and mine are both tight with very minimal movement.

Thanks DD, I guess that certainly suggested I have a defunct wiper motor... Just need to find a minute to call my warranty company and see where we stand then I guess.

Will report back :)
