View Full Version : MMI question
I'm not sure which mmi i have , I was sure it was basic plus but looking around at threads with pics of basic plus , it looks different to mine. Excuse the stupidity , I'm new to all things Audi, and it's bloody confusing! :1zhelp:

Could you take a pic of your dashboard? Colour or red screen above the centre airvents?
Also on your MMI control panel, 4 or 8 outer buttons? If 8, what does the NAV button do on the screen?

MMI High 2G ;)
I have 8 buttons, I don't have the nav disc yet , waiting on dealer, nav
turns the screen blue

See post #4, MMI 2G High.
Software version is 2120 but tbh if you're not experiencing any problems then wouldn't bother with the latest firmware to bring it up to date.
That's great, I thought I had plus!!! Happy days, loving this forum, I'm off to try and find the specs of mmi high 2g and find out if I can hook Bluetooth up to it, also the tv button does nothing so I want to find out about that option, agai thanks for the replys chris.

bluetooth you'll need this - AUDI MMI 2G A4 A5 A6 A8 Q7 BLUETOOTH retrofit install kit plug&play 4E0910336M | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-MMI-2G-A4-A5-A6-A8-Q7-BLUETOOTH-retrofit-install-kit-plug-play-4E0910336M-/200935215587?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2ec8ac11e3)
and if you want audi music interface (ie ipod connectivity) you'll need the latest mmi update but thats another £200+ ;)
tv retrofit is a big job, tuners are very limited second hand and are around £500+ for the digital tuner alone let alone the extra wiring, aerials etc needed.
I might stay away from the tv lol, I'm interested in the phone and iPod upgrade, also just read about a hidden menu. Love this car already, can the hidden menu be accessed without plugging a computer in?

more than likely you will need it but you can try anyway - press RADIO then hold in the SETUP and CAR buttons together but hit them at the exact same time.
if nothing appears then you'll need it enabled but to be honest, you're not missing much, just for novelty.
there may be a small minute chance I'll be in glasgow week beginning 5th August I can enable this for you if you haven't got it done by then.

btw this is what you need for the ipod - Audi Music Interface AMI A4 A5 A6 A8 Q5 Q7 COMPLETE RETROFIT INSTALL KIT NEW !!! | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-Music-Interface-AMI-A4-A5-A6-A8-Q5-Q7-COMPLETE-RETROFIT-INSTALL-KIT-NEW-/111117828935?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item19df238347)
and you'll need to update the mmi for that to work and you willl have the choice of ditching the cd changer (direct replacement) or have both with a slight glovebox modification -

theres a sort of walkthrough in one of those posts, basically insert cd (theres 3) in to the changer, run disc 2 twice if i remember correctly and just wait for it to update.
most people connect a battery charger while doing it or you can run the engine.
Is this the right discs for my car and firmware ? Sorry for the constant questions :D

Hi Chris,
Rabg seems to have a nice spec of A6 ...
ive just bought an a6 c6 s line, on an 06 plate. Loving the car so far, just a few things I need sorting.
firstly, the car has a ps2 and DVD player factory fitted in the glovebox, and screens in the rear headrests, I can play a DVD onto the screens with both ps2 and DVD player, however I cannot figure out how to get sound, I'd imagine it should come through the car strereo, so far I'm stumped, there is also a 6 disc changer in the glovebox and that plays sound fine.
Perhaps he has bluetooth / phone prep already?
Rabg :D, if you hold down Setup + Return (do it in this order) you'll enter menu where you'll see MMI related modules installed, I would advise only view stuff and not meddle in there though :) ... if you car does have factory phone prep you should see an item listed 'handyvorb' or 'BTA' ...
theres a sort of walkthrough in one of those posts, basically insert cd (theres 3) in to the changer, run disc 2 twice if i remember correctly and just wait for it to update.
most people connect a battery charger while doing it or you can run the engine.
Again disc 2 only needed if Rabg you have factory bluetooth / phone prep or just disc 1 & 3 each run once :D ...

Think a lot of people have found that its actually cheaper to buy the 3 disc set from Audi than off ebay or you can have mine as I no longer need them

Aftermarket rear screens (I have Veba) almost always use IR headphones, my car didn't come supplied with any but there is usually an IT sensor fitted at the top of one of the rear doors. Failing that get bluetooth headsets and link directly (via dongle) to the PS2or seperate DVD player.
I just bought a set of Veba IR headphones off Ebay!

To me Chris his reply is open to interpretation :) ...
I will give that a try, I'm still finding my way round all things Audi, I'm basically tryin to find out what the car already has and what I can add.

Have a look at this thread. Decoding and discovering the options (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=147320)
Or you can decode the option codes on the data sticker in your spare wheel well and put them into here - http://igorweb.org/equidec/

Here's what I have,
Looks like you have no phone prep :( ... when you rotated centre control in that menu there where no other items in list?

No that's all I had in there, not to worry though. I will get it installed in time. My keyboard keeps vanishing after typing every letter, must be a bug with my ipad when using this forum, so I apologise for the short replies

Phil K has this issue too, however I can't get it to happen on my iPad 2! :(
Sometimes using the go advanced option sorts it and other times not, I can't upload photos either and constantly have to sign back In, the vanishing keyboard rips my tights!

I have tapatalk on my iPhone, I may start using that, I finally got some photos up but via photobucket, I posted another thread. Pic whoring already :1zhelp:
My discs arrived today, when I load disc 1 into the changer it say cd is loading then the display says cd rom, and nothing else happens, have I missed something?

Are you pressing setup first then return ragb? try disc 2 or 3 to see if set works as install only starts after further keys ...

Did this on Saturday.. went perfectly and updated to 5550 which fixed the bug where the mix/shuffle function wasn't working, and also added in some extra bits (like the ability to delete all stored radio stations)
To get into the update, press SETUP then hold it down and press and hold RETURN as well. After a few seconds the menu should appear
Just don't he update, cd 1 and 3 went no problem, cd loaded and told me nothing was selected to be updated, i couldn't tick any of the Boxes to select anything to update, I don't have the telephone or Bluetooth installed so maybe that was the problem, is one this update as I will be adding the phone And Bluetooth soon, and wanted the firmware update in place, is this why disc 2 done nothing?

Just a quick question actually.. like Rabg I'll be retrofitting the factory bluetooth setup as well. Will I just need to run disc 2 at that point or the whole lot again? (I'm guessing just the 2nd cd?)

I'm guessing just cd2 when installed as the rest of the system will be already on 5570
