Thought I had already posted this but something must have went wrong.
Anyway, I was down in London there and using Google Nav on my Samsung S2 quite a bit.
the battery went and I had to switch to my wife's iPhone 3S and low and behold, I suddenly had turn by turn instructions coming through the speakers!

ive heard the commands coming across when I've been on a call, but with the iPhone, the heads free goes as if a call is coming in, it auto answers, gives the instruction then hangs up.

Does anyone know if this is a limitation of the Samsung?
I thought that the B8 didn't support AD2P? Colour me confused!

I tried this tonight with my iPhone 4 after reading your post and was amazed that it worked. It seems to use the cars telephone system to connect wirelessly to announce the Google Maps direction commands.

I don't have NAV on my car so I guess downloading a good Sat Nav App on the phone is the way to go.

I only have Mobile telephone preparation – Low.

Unfortunately I don’t know about your Samsung.

Yeah, we noticed this some time ago with our Avant - I did post about it on here at the time but it would have been easily missed I guess. Going to see if it works in the BMW now you've reminded me :)

Bluetooth profiles come in many flavours - and the iPhone does its best to hide everything and anything 'techie' from the end user. My guess is the iPhone is connecting and transmitting using the Bluetooth Headset profile.

Looks like it works for apple then.
I would be grateful if someone with a Galaxy S3 or S4 could try it out.
That will be my next upgrade option and I don't really fancy going iPhone just for that feature.

Cheers.

I have a Samsung S3 Mini which I'll try on the way home today. However I'm not confident it'll work. Just looked in the phone settings and under the Sony MW600 headset that I also have paired to it it has tick boxes for 'Call Audio' and 'Media Audio'. For the Audi carkit it only lists 'Call Audio'. Perhaps that changes when it's actually connected and the carkit offers other profiles too.

What year is your car and do you have AMI?

Well I checked it on Friday night and with a B8 2009 with telephone prep and a Samsung Galaxy mini s3 it does not stream audio :( Must be a new thing with the B8.5.

My Dad has a B8.5 with AMI and satnav I'll try it on that next time I see him.

Well i can confirm iPhone 4S and 5 both do this in my 2009 B8 without any problems. I'm guessing its an iPhone thing...

Phil you'll also find that Siri works through the speakers too and uses the cars mic.

Thanks mate, yeah I had discovered that with both the B8 and my E92 although it does work better in the Audi... One day I hope we will be able to enjoy full integration rather than just the features the manufactures decide we need - but for now iPhone does seem to manage a bit more than others so that's one good reason for putting up with the Apple arrogance!
