I've been playing around with the heating / cooling over the past few days. I must admit that I thought that the AC switch on the right hand side meant air conditioning. After having read the manual I now understand this to be the Air Cooler switch, it certainly has acted as such in this hot weather and if the AC is on it continually blasts cold air irrespective of the dial setting. Switching it off and the climate control takes over, the fan becomes less intense, however it still seems to be continuous ( I haven't been able to find the correct temperature on the dial yet). In order to turn off the Air Con it would seem that you have to switch the off button. This, then causes no throughput of air into the car. (I haven't done this).

Have I understood this correctly? If so I have been misguided for quite a long time.

I do know and have known for a long time that one should switch on the Air Con at least once a month to ensure that the seals don't leak.

Are you using the digital system or the manual?

On the manual knob version, the far right AC button is the aircon, red light means aircon is on and when the light is off, aircon is off.

I think you may have hit the front demist which will bunk the fan up to max in order to clear the windows of steam.

The OFF button turns everything off and no air is brought into the car, the auto setting can still be used with aircon on/off.

On the digital system the A/C button turns on/off the air conditioning compressor, which cools the air. If it's off, the coolest air the system can deliver is the ambient outside temperature, whereas with it on, the air conditioning heat exchanger delivers cooled dehumidified air.

I'm missing something here probably, but isn't "Air Cooling" simply Audi's posh name for what the rest of the World calls "air conditioning"? AC is AC and as everyone has pointed out will produce cooler air than can be fed into the pipework from the outside air temperature? I don't have the posh digital one mind you.

Anyone make "head nor tail" of the Car Systems Air Conditioning Settings - my interpretation:

Eco Hardly works at all - barely cools the car - useless.
Medium Reasonable although not on a hot day.
Intensive Works fine - exactly how it should work - cools the car nicely.

Pointless settings?

Seems to make a big impact on fuel consumption so better stic to Eco

I decided to find out a bit more about Air Con and have found an interesting link:
