Ok I'm now in my Insignia after disposing of the Passat, in the couple of weeks since I've been comparing
Auto vs DSG - DSG, I'm starting to suffer non existent lag simply because the DSG is seamless
Fuel Eco - VW but only by about 2mpg urban and I expect the VX to better the VW on a long trip
Comfort - VX, mines an SRi vs a Sport, the VX seat is deffo better for just about everything, the VW seat looks more stylish though
Looks - DRAW what one has the other hasn't and so on but both look very good and stylish
Steering - VW, the VX speed assist although I can drive anything is miles behind the VW steering
Handling - DRAW, the VW was less rolly but the VX seems to hold it's line faster
Engine - VW PD is quieter but the VX CDTi 160 is more refined in delivery like the CR
Build - VX, the materials are way better than what was in the B6 and the body panels are solid
Wheels - I still like the Monties myself, the VX 18's are nice but the Monties are deffo a sharp looking alloy
HiFi - VX but it's unfair to compare a Sat Nav system to a RD300 radio
Boot Space - Hatch vs Boot on this, but I reckon the VW boot holds more than the VX hatch
Overall - VX, I like the seating position and the finish and the car feels solid on the road,
Future? who knows, I didn't like the constant worry of big money fails even though I never got any in the end, I miss the DSG like I'd miss my arm but VX have really up'd the game since I had a Vectra C, the Insignia is a million miles away from the Vectra in everything, and had I stayed VW it would've cost me another 4k overall to purchase, I suspect £1500 of that would be recovered at selling time over the Insignia px value though and another £1200 in extra fuel under my usage patterns over 3 years so an estimated £1300 plus 4k less of interest charges overall, call it £1500.
If I do get a VAG again I'm reading up proper this time, hopefully the CR's prove to be good engines and VAG dealers and customer services improve, and I don't mean the person on the other end of the phone I mean those that dictate policy in the organization.
